sickness - swim bladder problems

If he's floating until you get his attention, and then swimming normally and not fighting to get lower in the water, it wouldn't be a swim bladder issue. Swim bladder issues mean the swim bladder can't regulate buoyancy at all, so the fish is either stuck floating or stuck sinking, and has to fight to move to the opposite level.

Honestly? I think he just has gas.

he is having trouble getting deep into the tank. he'll swim as low as he can, and then float right up like a rubber ball :(

Oh. Well in that case, it's definitely a swim bladder issue.

Fast him for a few days and see where that gets you.

Also, if he's two years old, it could just be a sign of his age. As they get older, bettas will often have swim bladder difficulties.

haha trust me, i know all about that! im 22 and i have a heart condition. meanwhile, my 92 yr old grandpa is healthy as ever, bikes every day!
