My beautiful delicate Trunks-sama has suddenly developed a temper. He's flaring for the first times ever, which is nice to see actually.
However, today, I went to put some java fern in his mini-bow 2.5, and I noticed he's missing some tail. So I looked at him closely, and no sign of rot. There's no one else in there with him, and I'm thinking that he most likely either got it caught in the filter (that would be a first since I got him in December, but it's possible) or in a fit of his new temper, he bit it off himself. He's missing what seems like almost half of his beautiful veil tail. I've put some melafix in his tank to help encourage new growth, but I was wondering if maybe I ought to treat him for rot at the same time, just to cover the bases, just incase it's rot, though it really doesn't look like it. He and his tail look healthy, except for what's missing. Now, he does have what looks like a hole in his dorsal fin, but it looks to me more like a puncture than a pinprick tail rot hole. I'm just wondering if it would be a bad idea to possibly over medicate him, or a good idea to cover the bases.
Second question. Trunks' tank seems to have ALOT of algae. He has a whisper filter which I just changed a couple of weeks ago, and it's already got algae growing on it. There's algae on his gravel, and also on his silk and plastic plants. What if anything should I do about this? I do fifty percent water changes, and I've removed the plants and washed them down, and what not, but I'm not entirely sure whether the alage is harmless, or if maybe it's an indicator that his tank isn't clean enough, or what. There doesn't seem to be that problem in Goku's tank, and I use the same preparation for their water.
Meanwhile, I've turned off Trunks' filter, and removed the carbon while I melafix him.
Any suggestions, comments, yelling at me for doing things wrong would be welcome.
