In the spirit of the love holiday, I'll give you a peek into something Kevin and I did when we were dating. Since we always had distance between us, we came up with some creative ideas besides phoning, emailing and visiting. One of those ideas was to send a journal back and forth to each other in the mail. It contained our thoughts about certain things, trivia about our lives, doodles, and random other things that would bring us closer together even with the hundreds of miles between us.
Here's a little sketch drawn by Kevin that turned up recently. I think it accurately represents our start and progression in an orderly fashion.
Top: Me asking whose food was in the fridge because I wanted to see if I could eat it. It was Kevin's and when I asked, he was playing videogames and looked up at me and stared. Love at first sight. We then started talking on the phone a lot.
Middle: The next week, he drove up to NY from VA to visit me and come to Chili Fest even though he didn't like chili. Even more talking on the phone and seeing each other after that (or "x A lot" in Kevin's words).
Bottom: He then would visit every few weeks or so, either driving or flying up to see me. Then more phone convertations.
This (plus lots of emailing and letter sending) pretty much sums up our courtship before getting married and moving to Japan together. I hope everyone had a lovely Valentine's Day (or Val-ANTI-ne's Day if that's how you roll) and is keeping warm wherever you may be!
