I've decided that I like all the Nerds flavors. Yes, I'm talking about eating the sugary candy, not about licking socially incompetent science students. I've always liked them, but never had much opportunity to try anything other than the usual grape and strawberry flavors. I'm not as hot on the "lemon-and-cherry" flavor, but it does the job if you need a Nerds fix. The new apple/watermelon combo lives up to that Nerdy goodness we all love. /end Nerds flava review.
Spent yesterday evening working on designs for the quilt I want to hang in the dining room. Figured out how much of each fabric I'll need (14 fabrics, totaling about 8 yards), but I think I'll hold off on buying that until after I get back from the weekend, because once I have it in hand I expect I'll want to get right to work.
I still need to put together the hanging sleeves and ID tag for the quilt I'm taking to the retreat this weekend, and see if I can figure out what to quilt in the setting triangles so I can have all that ready to work on instead of being antisocial and reading in the corner, as I know I'd otherwise be inclined to do.
It's errands day today. Yay errands! I'd list what I'll be doing, but it's not very interesting other than the fact that I'm having coffee with Wendy and checking on a top-secret operation.
On a completely unrelated note, I always stop what I'm doing when John Williams' JFK (prologue) Theme comes up on my play list. It's not a conscious thing, but that music evokes such powerful visual images that I am drawn into it every time. Now, I must admit that I don't associate it with JFK - I watched the movie once, for my high school American History class, and didn't notice the music then. I'm young enough that if I'm honest, JFK the man has the feel of any other well-admired president of the past - I don't have many personal opinions about Lincoln, for instance, and certainly have no reason to associate any sort of musical theme to him.
I see someone coming home to a wide valley, a place of family, friends, fond memories, and a comforting sense of home. It reminds me of wide open spaces, mountain vistas, contemplation, the power and beauty of life and nature, and lovely things in general. Yeah, I know there's that military-style snare beat, but it really doesn't stir images of ranks of troops or patriotism for me. Call me crazy.
Oh wait, you do that anyway....
