More information about: THE PARIS TRIP
When? August 1st to 9th 2008
Who? All people from my school, plus any friends who might want to tag along (for a price, of course)
Where? Paris, duh. We're staying at
Hotel des Arts which is smack in the middle of Montmartre. It looks cozy, clean and overall lovely. We're staying in double rooms.
What? The great thing about my school's trips is that you have practically maximum degree of freedom which is equal to n-1clearly stats is teh evil! The planned trip is all about museum-hopping and cultural exploration; they're even providing us with express museum passes!
I'm thinking of branching out on my own half of the time and joining the groups to go visit Orsay, Le Louvre, Champs-d'Elysee/Tour Eiffel, Versailles, Notre-Dame de Paris, maybe Pompidou and certainly any shopping venue that's on the way. ;p I really want to go off and explore some cafes, bistros, theatres and operas. I'd love to wander around Montmartre or Montparnasse, but I expect that Paris isn't exactly how books or movies paint it. (Note to self: rent "Paris, je t'aime" before going!)
How (much)? The current cost is 2,360$ per student. This includes everything from airfare to lodging to metro passes (yes!!!)and breakfast, which is accounted for at the hotel.
My parents: Mom shrugged and told me to ask my dad, Dad approved.
The deal: I'm paying half (roughly 1,200$ plus 500$ of pocket money to spend over there), they're paying the other half. I should be able to have this much deposited into my bank account by August.
Steps to undertake: Pay deposit, verify medical insurance is still valid, update passport (a whole procedure in itself), get travel insurance, pack, make money, buy a camera, make more money, daydream about Paris.
The more I think about it...the more I'm excited by the idea of jetting over to France and taking my croissant and cafe au lait on top of the Eiffel Tower, or spending the afternoon strolling along the Rive Gauche with a camera in hand, or having bouillabaise in the middle of the night in a bistro across from the Opera Garnier.
I can still dream, dammit.

(Hai Napoli, congrats on the win; Hai Meelan, we win the UEFA Cup next year no discussion here okay?)
