I'm currently slowly immersing myself in Lolita, which the darling
winterbymorning gave me for my birthday.
And no, I realize that Lolita is NOT Daisy Miller and that really, I should be finishing up my English essay, cracking open my books and learning WHAT THE HELL IS AN AN AROMATIC BENZILIC SUBSTITUTION AND HOW IT DIFFERS FROM AN AROMATIC BENZILIC ELECTROPHIC ADDITION.
Instead, I am stress/idle-eating like mad, surfing the Net and Livejournal like never before, cruising through Facebook (you evil evil virtual portal) and calling up random people (okay, one person specifically) to annoy them. And reading books totally unrelated to schoolwork. And posting entries. And even flipping through magazines and watching TV. Which I haven't done in a looong time.
I should be ashamed of myself.
There are so many things, outside of final essays and exams, that I still need to do. Like:
- Print and fill out the application for Stanford. I kid you not. I promised my parents that I'd do the whole American-college-I-will-bring-lotsa-diversity-to-your-campus-application for at least one institution. So yeah, Stanford. *snorts*
- Get a job. Seasonal hiring is all over the place, yet I'm too lazy and stupid to go drop off my CV. I NEED A JOB!!!
Money is running very, very short ever since I quit the bakery job....I'm looking forward to working in retail this winter. Hopefully I'll get a job at Simon's (local big-time clothing retailer). But of course, for that to happen, I MUST DROP OFF MY CV. >.<
- Clean my room. Thoroughly. Dusting, sweeping and the laundry has been much neglected lately....plus I need to wash the floors for the rest of the house. I wonder if I can get my sister to do the downstairs, hmmm....
-Organize my paper and files. Can't find your fourth-grade report card? No biggie. But can't find your passport? HELLO BELLS RINGING HERE!!! But of course, I can't really organize without possessing the adequate furniture and supplies to do so (file holders, dividers, more shelves)...which I can't really buy without having cleaned my room first....or without getting some money from a job... Obviously this all goes in circles and I am doomed. *glowers at her dirty, dusty and deranged room*
There are loads of things that I need to do, but I can't even remember what they are at the moment!
Oh yeah, Milan-Juventus' scoreless tie? Good enough, I'll settle for it. *breathes a sign of relief*
And to add to the uselessness of this post, the ubiquitous Christmas meme:
(gacked from everybody)
Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you. (Email address:
bestyli@livejournal.com)
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use-or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free-do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf-to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not - it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
Here's what I want for this Christmas:
- Satisfactory-to-good grades. An 80+ in Physics. An 85 in Chem and Math. And 90+ in English. An R-score of 32.00 (please godammit, I'm not asking for an average of 95 or an R-score of 37.5....I just want to improve my current standings a little bit. Per favore.) Okay, that totally counts as ... 5 wishes.
- A proper Internet celebration of holy matrimony for wifey and I.
- Bloody Stoopid Fuckin' Inter NOT to win the Scudetto.
- Anything and everything Paolo-related. It's his last season for Chrissake (..must...not...tear...up...). I'd slap his divine likeness on my walls, in my lockers, on my cellphone, on my LJ banner....anything. Everything. Hmmm. Oh Paolo.
- A yearly subscription to Vogue USA. I'm tired to buying every other issue off the stands.
- A proper business suit and some kick-ass (comfy) pumps to match. AS much as I love my pink blouse-gray slacks combo, I want a real, tailored business suit.
Dammit I wanna go shopping! I haven't been in a while, now that I think of it....hmmm, a new revamped (and clean, undusty) closet sure would be nice, lol.
You know what's also really annoying about not having being able to use your own computer?
No access to music, pictures, icons and other files stored on it. And the inability to save new userpics. Grrr.
All right, I'm out. Must.Write.Essay. *rams head in wall* DISCIPLINE!!!! A LITTLE BIT OF SELF-DISCIPLINE HERE!!!!
...I'm a hopeless case...
A Paolo pic, from today's game:
Okay, now I'm really, honestly out. Or trying to. *sigh*
