Leaving NYC and the return home

Jul 14, 2010 00:41

This morning, I woke up late, got to work at 11AM today and found myself with 32 new emails and 5 ongoing projects. Uggggh. Think happy memories...think happy memories...

The last day and a half were spent being relaxed (but still sweaty---darn humidity!) in NYC. Sunday meant getting woken up by the marching band (again) and going for brunch at this awesome but crowded Brazilian place called Beco in Brooklyn. Food was rice and eggs and filet mignon, with a side of beans and vegetable salsa. Yummy. Beverages were strangely rum-flavoured water (we think that it was because of the glasses), lots of iced espresso and, get this, a cocktail. With alcohol and everything. For brunch. On a I-slept-late-and-am-still-hungover-from-last-night Sunday. God, I love New York. We then stayed there for the WC final, even though the place was packed and we were about to die from asphyxiation and heatstroke. It was a hell of an ambiance, though. Too bad most people were cheering for the wrong team. (Although I'm not sure which was louder, the cheering for Spain or the lusting over Jesus Navas' beautiful eyes.;p) But even I will admit that the Furia Roja deserved the win, in the end. They got better as they advanced through the tournament and really, no one is truly immune to Emotional!Captain San Iker.

After Beco and the game (over which I barely got upset, thankyouverymuch), we got some Italian ices from the deli on the corner and sat on Li's front stairs chatting and just basking in the vibe of the place. Then we went to another cafe nearby, had some yummy sandwiches and I LJ-ed while Li did some work. After the cafe closed down (and gave us free donuts, aww), we went home, took a shower and tried this new place called Commodore. (Which, by the way, I do not recommend. They didn't have the first two items that we wanted to order off the already short menu, and while they have a lot of cool cocktails, Li's 8$ frozen mojito was basically water with mint. *sad face*) Then we just went home and crashed, since it was Monday the next day, which meant work for Li and packing+leaving for myself. Noooooo.

Monday morning, I got up early and threw all my stuff into my bags (my version of packing). I then went into Midtown with Li, took one last walk around there (sniffle) and went souvenir shopping for the family. I made a point to ostensibly go to FAO Schwarz in order to pick up a toy for my brother, bu really, I wanted to go see this childhood dream place of mine and its giant keyboard. I was not disappointed. :D

Then it was run back to Li's place, get my luggage and run back midtown to take the long, uncomfortable and seriously frustrating bus back home. The border-crossing was a mess, as some buses in front of us had run into some kind of trouble and we ended up waiting two freaking hours in line, tired and hungry. Sigh. I finally got home around midnight, after my mother very nicely picked me up from the bus terminal, and crashed until this morning.

*yawns* And that wraps up the end of my wonderful stay in New York City. I greatly enjoyed my vacation, and despite the place being dirty, noisy and completely crazy, I cannot wait to go back. There's just such an energy about that New York, and to know that you are at the nexus of cultural and financial center of the world....wow. The rush of adrenaline that the place gives off is just indescribable. So, in other words, I need to bribe someone at my firm so that they will send me to their NYC office next summer!

*yawns again* Speaking of work, I really gotta get some sleep tonight. I have a huge day ahead of me, both intellectually (five concurrent projects *tears*) and physically (early morning, working through the day and then going to the the circus(!) with the firm tomorrow night).

Okay, Betsy out.
