I'm halfway through a three-hour gap. It's only supposed to be two hours, but Information Systems finished fifty minutes early this morning, so more spare time for me. And I didn't bring my Latin book, so I can't do translations. Alas.
I have done something exciting in this sudden wealth of time. I paid for my plane tickets. This involved talking to the travel agent, getting a sticky note with the amount of money I had to pay, going around the corner to the bank, getting the money (in a nice white envelope) and taking it back to the travel agent. Just over three thousand dollars. Scary stuff. I have seen that much money before, but this time it was mine, and I gave it away. But this means I can now get to America, get from there to Europe, and then go home. Even more scary stuff.
Now I'm sitting in the library keeping busy. One more hour to go. The newsgroup for Human-Computer Interaction is helping - there's a link to
The Interface Hall of Shame. Most amusing. Reminds me of
the website formerly known as The Daily WTF. Amusement abounds.
In other news, the first two weeks of classes have gone rather quickly. Artificial Minds and Human-Computer Interaction are both interesting and quite different from all the IT subjects I've done in the past. Information Systems is better than I thought it'd be - hardly the most fascinating subject in the world, but I can see how it'll be useful and it's amusing to listen to the lecturer's strong Italian accent. Latin is Latin, of course, although the class is smaller (you weren't the only one who abandoned us, Miss Judith) and quieter (probably because Judith isn't there :P). I've run into so many State High people in these two weeks. It's amazing. (Hello Shahan, Kathy, Shelly and Katrina, among others!) I've even seen someone who I don't think I've since school finished, but must have been at UQ all this time. Weird.
This weekend is a Spinners camp in Warwick. Seeing as I finish class at four, I have to take the train from here to Ipswich and meet Mom there - she doesn't fancy driving from Brisbane out through Ipswich at that time of day on a Friday, so she's going down there earlier. Last night I dug through my boxes of yarn and such (it seems that I have now truly developed a stash. It just keeps getting bigger.) and found a few UFOs (unfinshed objects, for all you non-knitters) to take to camp with me. A beanie and a handspun scarf - not only is the scarf still in progress, there's two bobbins of singles to be plied and a bit more entirely unspun. Plus tatting and drop-spindled silk. I'm going to be busy.
I how have half an hour until class starts. If I walk slowly and take a roundabout route, now is about the right time to leave the top floor of the library to go to class in GP South. Bye!
