Laundry mostly done, except ... Hey, Elise! I CAN HAZ SOCKS?!? I don't get why shit has to be a concept with that kid, I truly don't. And I KNOW I have more than three pair of long black jeans. Hopefully the weather in KC will cooperate -- even if the Royals schedule didn't -- and I'll be able to get by on shorts.

Suitcase can only be 50 pounds. Total. Checked luggage over 50 pounds WILL NOT be handled. Where do you weigh luggage? I guess there must be a feed store with a scale around here someplace, that's where Dad and Grandpa went to weigh Tommy the St. Bernard when the scale at the vet's office couldn't handle him. He weighed 245, which was more than Grandpa at the time. And this was while Grandpa was still healthy, before his first heart attack. Dad was four years old, so ... 1947.

I can take two pieces of carry-on baggage. My purse doesn't count as one of the two, supposedly. Supposedly.

Amtrak website recommends getting to station at least two hours before departure. My bus to Raton leaves at 5:35 AM. Union Station doesn't open until 5:00 AM. Um?

Still don't know what I'm going to do in Raton for 7+ hours. The battery on my portable DVD player's only good for five.

I need to have Dad assemble the razor scooter that will be my primary transportation in KC, and that does need to be factored into my suitcase weight. I hope I won't end up needing both rolling cases (I am allowed three pieces of checked baggage), because then I will have to get a cab to go from the train depot to the hotel. I'm really wild about the idea of paying a cabbie $10 to carry me three whole blocks.

So what do they air on Seconds From Disaster on National Geographic Channel Tuesday? Skywalk Collapse, based on the July 17, 1981 collapse of two of the three atrium walkways during a tea dance. One hundred forty-four people were killed, more than two hundred injured. Yes, this is the hotel I'm staying at. Further information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyatt_Regency_walkway_collapse

Would buying incense be a good idea? Every tobacco store around sells some. Any particular scent?

There are four casinos in KC. The Isle of Capri is only 3 miles and change from the Hyatt, but I'm rather less than impressed with the professional quality of the IoC website. Harrah's and Argosy look good, they're 7 miles and change. Computer won't let me access the Ameristar site, and it's ten miles and change. Would the concierge desk know where a casino shuttle would pick up?

Nervous? A little. Excited? Definitely. Glad for a week away from the drama llama-llama that is my sister and mother right now? You damn skippy!

Badger's got more music memage, but it's gonna have to wait until I get back.

Seeya!

What? Oh, the KC Royals? Chicago, Detroit and Minneapolis, in that order. Sucks, too, cheap seats at Kauffman Stadium are $9.

dealer's room geek, getting there=not fun
