We don't have an attached garage and our home insurance is curiously less expensive because of that.

My garage is unattached. While your home ins might be less expensive if you don't have one, your car insurance is likely less expensive if you do have a garage (of any sort).

Correct! :-D We have a 2 car garage and our car insurance is lower because of it (plus we're mature adults now, LOL). :-)

Possibly it has something to do with the ease of breaking into a house with an attached garage, vs. a house without.

Actually, it's because the insurance companies think that fires are more likely to start in a garage, and if it's detached it won't spread to the rest of the house.
