Ezri sighed and propped herself up on her elbows, watching him. “We can’t let Benjamin find out, you know.”
Jake smiled lazily up at her. “I don’t think anything about you could surprise him,” he said, reaching up to stroke her short dark hair.
“Not because of *me*,” she said, rolling her eyes at him even as she leaned into his touch.
Jake grinned. “I know,” he said. “But it’s not like he’d approve of anybody who went to bed with me. At least it’s someone he’s trusted and respected for years, right?” His eyes sparkled impishly.
She raised her eyebrows at him. “Has he vetoed relationships with everyone on the Station, Jake?”
“Not everyone. Just the ones he thought were at all likely. Don’t worry about it, Dax - let *me* handle my father,” he said confidently. “He’s got to understand he can’t keep me from the girl of my dreams just because she happens to be a bit older than me.”
“A bit,” Ezri repeated, laughing. Her heart jumped at the casual way he dropped the words - the girl of his dreams. “Well, if he does find a way to separate us, you could always get together with Nog.”
Jake grimaced and thumped her severely with his pillow. “That’s just sick,” he said.
“Ack!” Ezri batted the pillow away from him and pinned him to the bed with a little trick she’d learned as Jadzia. “Only kidding.”
Jake grinned at her. “You have a really weird sense of humor.”
