Davis/Tru in 200 wordsbethosJuly 21 2004, 19:17:39 UTC
“You did *what* because of an idea from a D&D game?” Distracted from the prospective corpse of the day, Tru was absolutely flabbergasted.
Davis’s face broke into a grin she couldn’t see through the phone line. “I kid you not,” he said.
“Get out,” she said in tones of grudging admiration.
“No, I promise, it’s true. Ask anybody who was there,” Davis said earnestly, wishing he could see her face.
“Before what happened yesterday, I would have thought you were pulling my leg,” Tru said. “Now, though, I can’t be so sure.”
Davis froze. “Yesterday?” he repeated, forgetting to banter. “What happened yesterday?”
“Oh, nothing.” He could *hear* the smirk on her lips. “Anyway, we’ve got a girl to worry about keeping alive, so you can regale me with more fascinatin’ dungeon master adventures later.”
“So, besides nothing, and somebody dying, what happened yesterday?” Davis asked, aiming for casual inquiry but missing by a mile.
“I’ll tell you about it in person. See you shortly, lover,” Tru said playfully. She hung up.
When she sauntered into the morgue, a vision in scarlet leather, Davis was still staring at the phone in a stunned haze of suspicion and dawning hope.
