Saturday, I went with my high school friend B and our mutual friend M to get B's nipple pierced. He was terrified, so I promised him I'd get something pierced for solidarity. I've been thinking I wanted more earrings, so I decided to get another cartilage piercing. Eventually, I'll get second holes in my ear lobes.
We went to Sacred Piercing, in Erie, and it was probably one of the best places I've ever been. She has relaxing music and does deep breathing exercises with all her clients. As it so happens, she is also quite cost effective, and hot to boot. Heh. She lets friends come in for moral support and is very open with her facilities (the sign of a good, clean piercing place). B's piercing went without a hitch.
I'd forgotten how painful cartilage can be. Apparently I blanched and shook for a bit. I've never been very good with physical pain, as tough as I pretend to be. I felt mostly ok afterward, but I totally took her up on her offer when she asked if I wanted a glass of water. Unfortunately, due to Piercing Pagoda's* ineptness at placing, my new hoop doesn't line up with the old one. That's ok. When it heals, I'll put a smaller diameter hoop in the top hole and that should take care of the unevenness. I think...
Now that I've seen the process of nipple piercing, I have to say that I'm very tempted. I was kind of afraid of it before, but seeing how B's went, I think I'll probably get mine done too. I don't hold the same stringent time requirements on piercings as I do with tattoos because they can always be removed. So, I'll give my ear a bit to heal and then I'll probably go in and get my nipples pierced. When I do, I'm doing both at once, because I like symmetry and she gives a deal on multiple piercings. The nice thing: I don't have to take them out for work.
*I got my first cartilage piercing when I was fifteen and I didn't know better than to go to one of the corporate piercing outfits.
