RANT ON:
I'm awfully damned proud of myself. The night before last, I had gone out to dinner at the house of a friend's relative (sister). What started out as a sedate birthday celebration turned into a shouting match.
Obnoxious relative: You're a DEMOCRAT?!!?
As if this was something of which to be ashamed.
Me: (nodding)
OR: So do you like Hillary Clinton?
Me: Well, I couldn't vote for her.
OR: What about Dianne Feinstein?
Me: I couldn't vote for her, either.
OR: So, what's your opinion on gun control?
(silence)
OR: So...what do you think? Do you like gun control or not?
Friend: She doesn't have to answer the question.
(Shouting match ensues. Finally, I speak up.)
Me: I CAN SPEAK FOR MYSELF! I REFUSE TO ANSWER YOUR POINTED QUESTION. YES, I'M A DEMOCRAT. ENOUGH ALREADY.
OR: (downs another shot of whiskey and excuses himself from the house, only to drive to destination unknown. Comes back, has eggnog spiked with several more shots of whiskey.)
RANT OFF
I'm ambivalent about Hillary Rodham Clinton, and I don't know enough about Dianne Feinstein to have an opinion one way or other. (note to self: do your homework.) Governator Ahh-nold and Arianna Huffington made good theatre during their debate.
I do, though, like Kathleen Blanco. I voted for her in the gubernatorial runoff. I hope she kicks butt in Baton Rouge.
I hope Mary Landrieu continues to kick butt in Washington, especially since John Breaux announced he won't seek another term.
I have an acquaintance in Baton Rouge who is in law school and would make an excellent politician. If she does decide to run for office, I'd be glad to work on her campaign. Personal differences aside, she'll get my vote.
