Dragon Con Report!! This is gonna be loooong so I'm gonna break it up by day!
Thursday:
Thursday consisted of a 10 hour drive to Atlanta. We left Erin's house at 9:45 AM and arrived in Atlanta at 7:45 :O We took 2 cars, Roger and I were in the Party Truck with Erin. Jeremy, Ronnie (Peppah Priestess :P), Chip, and Alex were in the War Wagon. On the way down, Roger and I pointed out all the theatres we put in ads from the interstate. I think we counted 7? :D We're dorks LOL. We also saw a semi with "Dragon con?" written on the back! I gave the driver a thumbs up LOL. We also got to drive by the Peach Butt water tower in SC.
Our hotel was/is pretty sweet. We stayed at the Hyatt and we had two rooms. Mine had a mini-fridge :P All of the hotels were ginormous, compared to DC hotels and even Baltimore Inner Harbor hotels! The Hyatt was about 21 floors and the Marriott was 47! Dunno about the Hilton or the Sheraton I barely went in those LOL.
Marriott Lobby looking allllll the way up!
We up to the top floor of the Marriott were I got dizzy and had to go back down. And damn those elevators were freakin' fast! :O
Friday:
We got up rather early to get our badges, and I slowly got ready. Roger and I wanted to go to the Steampunk panel, so I sloooowly put my Dancer make-up on and went through the thick program book too :O
The steampunk panel was interesting! We got to see lots of shiny steampunky objects and costumes. Since Roger and I were in normal clothes, we felt very...under dressed... Nearly everybody that attended were wearing steampunk LOL. I don't think my cute Sushi shirt really fit in :/
After the panel, I got into my Dancer costume and then Roger and I went exploring in the Dealers Rooms. There were three of them but we only managed to hit up two of them! I was very happy not to see the same anime crap everywhere. There really was only few booths there that were dedicated to animu. There was one dealer who sold really old cartoons from the 80's on DVD! Oh it brought back memories! There also was a vintage video game booth where they sold the old NES and SNES games! :D Roger was very happy with that booth LOL. There were a lot of corset booths and a lot of swords. You also could've gotten custom vampire fangs too!
After the Dealers Rooms closed we decided to explore some more and then I got mobbed for pictures! Once that was over with, we ate dinner and then wandered around with Erin, Ronnie, Chip, and Alex as they were dressed as ninjas LOL. We decided to take make-shift prom pictures in front of this Dragon con tarp. :P
We also met our Atlanta co-worker Allison! She had already been drinking, and bought us a drink too! She was very nice and cool! LOL
Saturday:
Saturday we got up late-ish and we got to see a majority of the parade from our hotel room! Granted we were on the 20th floor, so everyone was tiny, but hey we got to watch it!
After that, I slapped on my Water Priestess make-up and some normal clothes and went to the Dealer's room that we didn't manage to get to before. I bought a really adorable Hellboy vinyl toy and the booth I got it at had the creator of Hellboy there! So I got it signed for free! :D He was very nice! Also, the guy who was C3PO was in Dealer's Room signing autographs, so I got to see him too :P
We walked around with Erin, who was dressed as Scarecrow. We got to see some kids who were happy to see Scarecrow, and then some kids who actually got scared LOL. We ran around with her for a while, and we went back up to the room to prepare for Dragon Con Night at the Georgia Aquarium!! We got to go to the aquarium after hours and tour around with other Dragon con attendees! It was so awesome! I dress halfway in my Water Priestess, I wore jeans because I didn't want to drag my skirt around the aquarium and downtown Atlanta :O.
The Aquarium had about 3 cash bars in the lobby LOL. I wanted the blue drink because it matched me :D It also came with a gummy worm! Apparently, this aquarium has the only Whale Sharks in captivity. And has the largest tank in the world! I think the guy said it was 6.3 million gallons! O.O They also had some lazy otters too! They were all sleeping.
Apparently the Sleeping Beauty fairies like fishies too! We kept running into them LOL. They did have a Sleeping Beauty with them too. In the gift shop we found twirly LED wand things that Roger took home to Steampunk out! We also found Penguin Poop.
After the aquarium Erin and I got into our "Spice Girls" outfits and oh dear god. I don't even know what to say, it was so funny. I have some pictures in my Flickr you can check out LOL.
Sunday:
Sunday was our lazy day. We got up late and I wore my Ninja costume. Basically all we did was walk around the Dealer's room where I got a plush Hello Kitty cheese and two T-Shirts. We decided to go to the Hilton (since we haven't really gone there yet) and walked around the Walk of Fame. Which is basically all the celebrity guests sit at tables and sign autographs. I didn't get any autographs because they charged for it :( But I saw Karen Allen, Eric Robers, Doug Jones, the guy who plays Carlyle from Twilight, James Marsters, Lou Ferrigno, Malcolm McDonnel (LINDERMAN) and some more people. I took some ninja pictures of the ones who I knew and could get a fairly decent shot of. And go figure, I was in my ninja costume too :P
DOUG JONES IS AN AWESOME, AWESOME, MAN. :D
Roger and I people watched in the Marriott after we had lunch and found some free wifi so we could do our unemployment stuff THANK YOU CORNER BAKERY!. We saw alot of interesting costumes...and boobies...with pasties...and tassels :O
We eventually went back to the room to watch the Masquerade on DC*TV. Unfortunately, the video cut out at the beginning after the children's catagory. But it came back on in time for the Can-Can Zombies! And the 15 ft. tall Aku from Samurai Jack! Most of the Masq. I saw was kinda lame, and the hosts were fuckin' annoying!
Monday:
Monday we got up, packed, Roger and I visited Allison one last time, and then we left. We got to see the NASCAR trucks on the highway while leaving Georgia! We saw the Aflac, Talledega Nights, and the ESPN trucks!
Here are some random notes I wrote down at the con that I thought I'd share!
Random notes:
-The staff are actually nice!!! It was such a difference between anime cons and this one. The staff are actually ADULTS and behave like ADULTS. I don't think I was actually yelled at this weekend. I don't think I can go back to anime cons with this expectation, coughKATSUcough :P
-24 hour bars...THE WHOLE WEEKEND. There were portable bars everywhere in the Hyatt and Marriot, and I assume the Hilton and Sheraton? I didn't really go into those very much...
-FOOD COURT FTW. IT HAD A DAIRY QUEEN AND CHICK-FIL-A
-Dragon con has their own tv thing. :D Could watch the major panels on tv
-After 8 pm: Tits and Ass. Lots o' ass.
-Before (and after) 8 pm: Boob shelves.
-Never saw Shatner or Stewart. :(
-Didn't see very many anime fantards :D The median age here is older and more mature...well most of them :D Lots of parties.
-Most the costumers are hardcore. A lot of variety of costumes. Ronald Reagan Jedi. Definitely a motivator for making awesome costumes. Must put useless lights on everything now!
-Most people here are more polite than anime cons.
-Roger says Atlanta smells like the Potomac LOL. It's like we never left. HAHAHA
-Our Shower head was a powerwasher. It hurt. Erin accidentally pulled off the shower handle LOL
-Erin with a fro is a funny and scary thing. It was very poofy.
Obviously, I had a great time for my first time! Roger and I are already making plans for next year! I highly suggest that if you haven't gone, to go! SAVE UP YOUR MONEY AND GO BECAUSE IT IS AWESOME!!
