that makes no sense at all... i make no sense at all. i shall start from the top.
first thanks to Bee for all her help last night. i know i totally failed and i would have thrown my new laptop against the wall if it was not for her. thank you again ^^ i'll send you siwon pics later should he posts more half naked pics on twitter and some other fail pics too [ie. eric is a amphibious mythological norse creature/"frog-troll" and a jokwon is a sassy avian].
i should explain:
starting law school and i realize that as much as i love my six year old laptop, Winston, i needed one that was under 5 pounds - not that i think you're fat Winston. ~ILU *kisses* [yes i know i have a weird realtionship with my laptop. when you go thru five years of fandom and fandom pains with your laptop - group breakups and most importantly crippling viruses due to love of fandom - you're gonna have a weird realtionship with your laptop]
anywhoo, so tuesday i went out to office depot and got a new laptop on sale [really lucky since the site said it was no longer in stock but when i got there they had two left... hmm] she's 15.6 inches and 4+ pounds - my new baby. all i ask is winston to take care of his lil sister, Gem [was supposed to be winston jr. or junior junior, or junior winston but i decided on gem in the end... moving on----]
yesterday after reading torts, i decided i wanted a break before civ pro. [uck] and so i installed ubuntu to Gem. i got microsoft security essentials but still i think i'd feel better to use a linux program when i'm online now. that last attack really sent me spiraling. btw i hate kaspersky and the geek squad. still love the nerd herd tho. JEFFSTER 4 EVA!
like at first i thought i'd install ubuntu 11 but after giving it a trial run i don't want to spend all that time to figure it out again. starting anew and learning all this is when i have a lot of free time on my hands [which sounds weird since i'm posting this as an indictaion that i have free time on my hands, but the purpose of this post is to inform and to unwind, which is explained all later]
so i install 10.04 at the recommended 32 bit just like winston.
install install install. i partitioned it so i can still use windows alongside ubuntu [no offense but i need itunes and i prefer word - i'm just used to it more] anyhoo, install install install.
finished installing in a few minutes and i learn - lo and behold - THE FUCKING WIFI WON'T WORK! thank goodness for winston. went on winston to figure out what was going on and the forums tell me to install a package thing diswrapper [something] and i'm like "ok... NO INTERNET THANK YOU VERY MUCH HOW AM I SUPPSOED TO INSTALL THIS THING?" [i should mention i found that after about two hours of searching.
i openned up an terminal and ifconfig said i had internet but iwconfig said no connection and lshw said my harddrive was unclaimed. again that's when they told me to get the diswrapper thing.
i bitched on twitter and bee was nice enough to respond. i called her and tried to go online using a ethernet but that's unclaimed too. so basically no internet AT ALL. WINSTON had NO PROBLEMS WITH THIS. bee informed me that it's basically the main problem with ubuntu and new computers. apparently new computers don't want you to use linux and use their system. so yes ILU WINSTON. i'm naming a son after you. yes my son will be named after a laptop i named after a jeweler. not bad, an interesting story for the grandkids, no?
moving on, so basically it turns out i need to install build-essentials. i grabbed an usb to transfer the files to and guess what happens? EFFING INTERNET TRAFFIC! at this point i'm just waiting and listen and talking. it was like around eleven [note: i've only had four/five hours of sleep this past week and tho it was a saturday i still had to go to school and stayed in the library after review] i was spewing some nonsense about my classes and since bee was working late i could hear the doggie barking so ... don't judge ... i started making lil barking sounds wondering if the dogs can hear. [there's this once case where this lady sues another lady for default on payment of sale of land. the defendant said the contract is void since the house was used for illegal activity and contracts made for illegal activities are void - i'll let you guess what illegal activities two women can get into back in the wild west]
finally internet worked and i d/led a bunch of .deb files to install. this is where i really wanted to cry:
1. first the build-essentials.deb said dependency on g++ file. so i went back and got that. [not official file names but you get it]
2. then g++ file says needs a g++-4.4.deb. got it.
3. g++-4.4 file said needed a libstdc.dev file
here's where to cry folks
4. Libstdc.dev file told me to FREAKING GET THE G++-4.4.DEB
yes why don't you cry with me. please, do.
finally me and bee hung up since it was 1 in the morn. i was still a lil obsessed. i emailed some ppl begging for help and still tried to "make it work" but it was 3 am and i realized the words were smooshing together and i needed to sleep. still haven't finished civ pro at the time. i woke up at 9 and finished it. tried to fix gem again. winston really is a life saver.
and somehow i found a site that said I
CAN GET BUILD-ESSENTIALS IN THE CD!!
why can't ubuntu just be like, ok if this happens do this. why? why?
WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so yes cry with me. ಥ‿ಥ
the cd has g++ and all that and thanks to bee i was able to get it thru synaptic package manager. i had to do a lot more searching for build-essential, but it's d/ling now and i hope all works out. fingers crossed for me now. thank you
anyways i red/led the iso and burned it on a cd.
now the emoticon of my night spam

still not working all of it. build essential is missing dpkg and lynx. lynx was easy but dpkg package is really irrating me.
