Goodness, it's been awhile.
Not too much has changed for us here, just life as busy as ever.
We celebrated 1 year of home ownership a few weeks ago, and recognized the occasion by doing yardwork. We've finished our landscaping for the summer, with beds surrounding the house, mostly perennials, and most of those given to us from other people's yards. I'm most excited about my small vegetable patch - basil, peppers, tomatoes, zucchini, and raspberries. I am hopeful that we will have a bounty of our own homegrown food later this summer. Here's hoping!
Work has been busy - I've been given a lot of responsibility with lots of different tasks, and sometimes it's a little too much but I still love working there - I've been there 2 years now, which is longer than I've been in any other job in my post-school working life so far.
We have been doing a lot of entertaining lately - something we never could do when we lived in the apartment. Campfires, dinner parties, backyard barbecues... it's nice to have a guest bedroom for overnight visitors too. I made a great menu on Friday - ratatouille (sp?), burgers with smoked mozzarella inside, baked potato, strawberry shortcake. It's nice to be able to stretch my culinary abilities a little and so far my guests haven't minded (well, they haven't said anything which perhaps isn't a reliable indicator).
Lots of weddings - sister was in April, then we had 2 in June and 1 in July (all friends), and one we are missing while we're on vacation.
YES! VACATION! - we are heading to Alaska for 17 days, starting July 17th. We are NOT cruising (though everyone asks if we are); we are just touring the interior - Anchorage, Seward, Homer, Talkeetna, Denali, Fairbanks, Wrangell-St Elias, then back to Anchorage. We expect to do a lot of hiking, and have been preparing with hikes of various lengths and difficulty since about January. We also have been getting ready, gear-wise, hopefully with things we'll continue to use in outdoor adventures a little closer to home. We have lots things other than just hiking planned for our trip, of course. And yes, there will be pictures.
When we return, I'll turn 30 not long afterwards - I'm feeling good about that - not really a big deal for me at all.
Um - not much else. Hopefully I'll update a little more often so it doesn't feel like a huge recap. Life is just busy, y'all!
