A Snape fan's job is never done - and very well you do it! But you forgot to mention Sybill, wah, and Millicent! I'd love to see your take on Snape with a sympathetic and adult Millicent, post-war.

Thank you for explaining the lilacs that currently litter my flist!

Millicent! I totally meant to include her!

(I love Sybill, but while I like to read Snape/Sybill, I don't think a Snape/Sybill story is in me. *G*)

I like Crystal and I like Lee.

But Crystal is very Indie and I think the AI label would be too restrictive for her - just like it would have been for Adam ... who has done just fine by coming in second.

That last song of Crystal's really turned me off though; I felt like I should have been in church instead of curled up sick in my bed. Her voice is great but the song bored the crap out of me.

Of the two of them, Lee has definitely shown more growth over the weeks. I saw a video of Crystal singing when she was 13. She hasn't changed! True to herself, yes ... but no growth as an artist. Lee has shown that growth. The singers who have won AI and never changed seem to be the ones who get forgotten, and in at least one case, dropped off the AI record. Crystal would do very well making her own way now that her name and face and voice are out there for the world. I think Lee could hold his own on the AI label and still sell well.

The only part of that I find problematic is the focus on "growth as an artist." I mean, yes Lee would probably benefit slightly more from winning AI, but the people who were the best artists over the years (Chris Daughtry, Adam Lambert, Kelly Clarkson, David Cook, Carrie Underwood, others) quite frankly didn't really change much as artists. Oh, some of them changed their outfits, but they all - winners and non-winners - remained pretty true to who they'd been the day they auditioned.

However, I don't care if Lee or Crystal win in any sense except my naive belief that the better singer should win (and for me, that's Crystal), since getting locked into an AI contract (unless you're in a perfect marketing niche like the country-centric gals were) can actually hurt fast track careers.

Adam is on the AI label. The contract for being on the show gives 19 Entertainment exclusive rights to all the contestants for something like a year. Kris and Adam are both on the same label. Lee and Crystal will likely be the same.

My bad, that's what I get for posting while I have a fever and am terribly sick. I remembered wrong then.

So I looked into it and what it is is that they have first dibs, but do NOT have to sign the losers. And if they don't, then as you said, they have to wait for that contract to run out before they can elect to sign elsewhere.

It does seem to me though that the ones (in general) who don't win get to do more with their album then the ones who do and are actually viewed by the general public as American Idol artists.

Either way, as a singer myself, while I do enjoy Crystal's voice, and particularly enjoyed her take on Come To My Window, she almost never gave me chills. I never really felt connected to her ... she was background music to me. Memorable, but not enough that I ever bought anything of hers -- except her duet with Lee. Lee, now he touched me and gave me chills. I didn't like him at first, but he really came into his own as the show progressed. Hallelujah was so good it made me cry.
