Two things. The first was
seperis's mostly tongue-in-cheek (funny/true) post on
"Ten true public statements we all believe..." (Not), in which one of the comments was this:
3.) You are good with everyone else's other pairings.
LIE: Other people's pairings that you don't share are stupid. Logic? What logic? They just *are*.
...and the second was a comment from
adina_atl in a thread from the Book Poll post which began "I probably shouldn't say [this] in Beth's journal, but I *gasp* don't even like Snape that much..."
Which leads me to my actual question: how much do you care when other people say snotty things about your favorite pairings or characters?
See...I used to care. I didn't think about this issue at all during my stays in my first two serious fandoms (Highlander and The Sentinel), but I came into due South at the tail end of the Ray Wars, and I have to admit that listening to people say nasty things about Kowalski upset me a bit. Not enough to have fights with anybody, but...enough.
Now, though? I couldn't possibly care less how other people view my favorite pairings or characters. I love Snape (ooh, big surprise!), and yet I have people on my f'list who loathe him and say so often. I like many Snape pairings, but one of the ones I like is Snape/Hermione, and man, do I have f'list-ers who despise that pairing (and not just because it's not slash).
Obviously, saying "Anybody who thinks this character/pairing is good is a delusional psycho bitch" is a different matter, but until somebody actually says that, I'm going to assume all their loathing for my favorites and all their loves for my least favorites are just matters of taste. Not matters of life and death. Not worth fighting over.
