Lumos: The Panels Edition

(I wish I could have attended more panels, but here's what I did get a chance to attend)

FRIDAY'S PANELS

Slash Versus Het: Fanfiction and the Fandom Divide. (Me, starrysummer, foreward, incognito)
This panel was the brainchild of violet_quill, once upon a time, but she ended up not being able to attend Lumos, so starrysummer took over the modding duties, and the four of us presented a variety of ( Read more... )

What is despised, God has chosen: Severus Snape as a divine instrument

Wow. That sounds completely fascinating. Do you know whether there's a writeup of what was discussed, or presenter's notes, or anything like that available online?

I don't know if there is yet (she seemed to still be writing the essay after the deadline for the CD version of the papers), but I suspect she'll add the essay to her website at some point. I'll write and ask her.

Here's the essay (which I haven't had a chance to read over):

logospilgrim is a genuine mystic. I've never had the privilege of meeting her, but it's obvious from her writings and the amazing talk she gave about Dumbledore as spiritual master. I sat next to jedirita and I swear we were nodding in unison at the Scriptural references and the examples, even though neither of us is particularly familiar with Orthodoxy. Stunning.

*nods*

I had a few chances to speak with her, and...yes, "mystic" is definitely the right word.

Actually, I know quite a bit about Orthodoxy for a Protestant, and I've read a fair amount of Orthodox spirituality. But you were the one who know what a "starets" was. :P

I still crack up over that image of Augustine as Snape. Hehehe.

You know how I know that? From reading a biography of Nicholas and Alexandra. Rasputin pretended to be a starets to impress the Tsar and Tsaritsa.

1. You've got an extra (confuzzling) header in your stats. :D

2. Yes, that is an interesting difference, particularly given recent rantage I've seen (where? I dunno. Brain = sieve) on how OMG PRACTICALLY EVERY SLASH STORY ends in MARRIAGE and it's WEIRD and omG and STOP IT. (to which I went ...really? Where the hell are you reading?)

What was the confuzzling header??? Help me, Obi Wan! *g*

And yes, I've seen similar rants about slash, but really...while the majority end in some sort of relationship, it's not all vows and flower petals.

Would I have woken up for this panel if two of the four panelists weren't my roomies?

Heh heh heh. *g* But aren't you glad you did? YAY FOR THE SNACO BUNNY. :D

(Can Senor Draco make an appearance? *g*)

I have never listened to any panel by logospilgrim, but I totally agree with what you said, based on what Professor S. writes on her lj.
