That whole situation was kind of fascinating to me (I can see it as fascinating and not Teh Scary now that it's mostly over); I mean, no...it wasn't as if the internet had disappeared, but in my part of fandom, at least, most of the fannish infrastructure has relocated to livejournal, which meant that LJ going down was tantamount to Fandom evaporating. And yet, no sooner had it started to sink in that Fandom, as it had become, was no more, than people started finding each other again on mailing lists, on AIM and YM, on other journaling services (particularlly journalfen and greatestjournal). It was like we were all castaways washed up on the shore of a desert island, recreating civilization...er...
