Five years ago today, some stupid fuckers decided that the best way to stun Britain into fear and submission was to, ah, bomb London, thus showcasing a truly awesome degree of Not Getting It on the scale that should have its own special display case somewhere, possibly in its own dedicated exhibit to the art of How To Fail Spectacularly At Life.
Their actions caused advanced traffic delays (um...), some advanced tutting, a minor electricity surge as the entire country ran to put the kettle on, some truly terrible jokes, the ports and airports to close for a grand total of zero days, zero hours, zero minutes and zero seconds, by all accounts an inability to find room in a pub all day, and the fact that the 7th of July will forever be the safest day of the year to travel by tube in London.
Oh, and I think Eastenders was on late that night.
The bombings themselves were terrible, and a tragedy, but (thank God) they could have been a whole lot worse. I think it's important to remember the victims and the human tragedy - they can never and should never be forgotten - but at the same time I also want to remember the response of London and the rest of the country to the morons who thought they could destroy us. Said idiots would, I imagine, have been a little unhappy at the collective one-fingered salute they received, were they not by now in a very small box in the ground.
srs bsns you guys i mean it
