She died on the 21st of November.
I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, I have always dreamed of visiting her (and her maginificent home Dragonhold) in Ireland, and now I never will get to meet her. But on the other hand, I have heard some pretty crazy speculations about her and Scientology, which definately freaked me out and made me pretty upset when I first found out. I sill love her earlier writing, and even some of her more recent works. There is no changing that she was definately one of my favorite authors in middle school and that I look up to her for the things she has written and the fascinating worlds she has created.
So I am sad, and dissapointed, but I still have many of her books to read and I am still going to keep looking for that elusive hardcover copy complete with proper full-page illustrations of The Girl Who Heard Dragons- and one day I will find it.
For now, I will re-read TGWHD again and again and I will think about how funny the world is, because on the day she died I was re-reading TWGHD, completely unawares, after several years of not thinking about it at all, and discovered that time has not erroded my enjoyment of it in the least.
To Anne McCaffery, and all the wonderful things she wrote, I wish I could simply say "Thank you."
