[When the camera turns on, it shows... trees. Tropical trees. Like those on the island. The view doesn't stay stationary for long, though; it starts jerking around, as if someone's just shaking it. If one watches carefully, one might catch a glimpse of a teenaged boy with blue hair and green eyes.]

Hello? Are you all right?
I thought language wasn't a thing here...

Aïs pulls his 'magic tablet' closer to get a better look. That person... He has a fox spirit, too. But they also speak Lae's language... Communicating with others who speak foreign tongues isn't anything new to Aïs, thanks to Lae, but he can't make out what they mean. He doesn't know how to respond. Well... He'll have to figure out how to ask...
Aïs kneels down and picks up Senaya so he can hold her up to the tablet.]

[He straightens, and gestures up to the sky.] Saiyes.
[He does this several times in reference to many different things: He walks over and touches a tree; he presses his hand against his heart; he gently touches Seyana's back. Each time, saiyes.
At last, he stops and watches his tablet, green eyes focused. He's waiting for a response, for any kind of sign that this boy with the fox spirit understands. Everything has a spirit.]

[ It doesn't click. Although Chris knows a lot about magic and how it flows, interacts with the world... this isn't one of the ways he visualizes it, nor would he think to get it across this way. He just looks confused, as does Etana, with her head tilted to the side and eyes narrowed in thought. ]
I don't... Matter? Objects? What?

Aïs presses his hand against her shoulders again.] Saiyes. [He puts his other hand against his heart again.] Saiyes. [Come on, come on.]

Chris shakes his head, not to say he doesn't understand, but to clear it, and concentrates again. ]
Saiyes... [ His eyes narrow in thought and he experimentally points toward Etana. ] Saiyes?
[ He really doesn't know, but it seems like a good start. ]

Aïs nods.] Saiyes ne Mehanna. [He gestures to himself, to Seyana, to the air, to the trees, to the earth. Everything in existence has a spirit.]

Can we go back to 'saiyes' for now? What-what is it, life? Everything?

Oh, Chris. If Aïs spoke English right now, he would be nodding and saying "Yeah, kind of." But as it is... That's just gibberish. Well. He understands "everything," because that's one he remembers Lae using. He also recognizes "what," but not what it means. (He recognizes it because Lae also likes to say "whatever.")]
"Everything"... Mehanna. [Close enough. Mehanna is a concept referring to All, but you know what, that's why Aïs knows "everything," because of his communications with Lae about All.] Mehanna, "everything." [He may or may not have an accent that turns "everything" into "efrythin."]

Everything... Mehanna... so-so whatever 'saiyes' is, that's 'everything'? How do you know 'everything' but nothing else, anyway?
[ He absolutely gets that Saïx doesn't understand him by now-not much, anyway-but it helps him think to muse aloud sometimes. ]
Reply
Everything, Mehanna. [Correct. ♥
However, he shakes his head.] Saiyes [he holds up his arms in an "x"] Mehanna. Saiyes ne Mehanna.

Ne? Ne... 'not'? Saiyes is not everything?
Reply
Ne... [To demonstrate, Aïs makes a cup with his hand and puts his fingers in the cup.] Ne.

In? Saiyes is... in everything?
Reply
Saiyes ne Mehanna. Saiyes ne Aïs, saiyes ne Seyanna, saiyes ne you, ne moon, ne star, ne sun.
Reply
Saiyes is... magic?
[ ... he's getting closer, anyway. ]
