I heard that having one would. Fix you.

A soul isn't a fix. [ It's a curse. But, saying that out loud would give Charles the very opposite idea that Angel is trying to convey. ] It's a cage. [ A beat, as he thinks how to approach the topic. ] I don't drink human blood.

Neither do I, but that hasn't stopped me from being one of the greatest monsters of my time, in my world.

I'd like to speak with you in person.

I turned myself in.

[ Which is his way of saying. Come to the jail. Be his friend. Or, hear him out, anyway. ]

[The jail, again. Starting to become a depressingly common sight, for him.

He asks for Angelus, is taken to the cell. Left outside, with bars in between him and the prisoner. Frankly, he doesn't want to be left alone in the cell with the vampire.]

Hello.

[The word is cautious.]

[ Angel bides his time sketching. His black (not leather) jacket sits beside him on the bench against the wall. When he hear's the door down the hall open and the footsteps that follow he finishes the ridge of the sandbar and sets his pad aside. He can't help but think about the last time they were in the same room with one another - except, that wasn't Angel - and it wasn't under benevolent circumstances.

Angel stands, but keeps his distance. Everything is different than Angelus. His tone, his stance, his attitude. He hopes Charles doesn't see it as an act. He hopes for a good outcome. ]

Hey.

[ He'd invite him in, offer him coffee -- He's not the best host, is he? ]

[ It really says something about his life that Angelus wasn't even the worst thing to happen to him lately.

He slides his hands into his pockets.

He hates being so close to someone he can't read. And that bothers him. He used to be able to exist without reading everyone around him. Why is it so difficult now? ]

Go ahead. Apologize, or tell me why you shouldn't have to apologize.

Apologizing won't change what's been done to you. It won't change that Angelus had you kidnapped and it won't change that I'm not him.

[ He makes his way up to the bars, still keeping his distance. Of course he should have to apologize, Angelus is a part of him. Angel without a soul. The scourge of Europe. He has plenty to apologize for. ]

Years ago I kidnapped a young Gypsy girl. Her tribe paid me back, cursing me with a soul. From then on I would feel the guilt from every death I caused, every town I massacred.

[ He decides on this angle, thankful Cordelia isn't in the room. The story could be longer but the point of it would still be the same. ]

I retreated from the world, preferring to stay out of the way. I wasn't a hero. I was a monster. I had done horrible things. Why was I allowed to live?
