[she thinks about that for a moment] I think I'll be wearing a purple dress. Is that all right?

Perfect. I just needed to make sure we wouldn't clash.

That depends on what you need that minute for, Neal.

Just because he's yours doesn't mean that he's mine.

[ a pause, because ugh, fine, she'll listen. ]

I have a minute or several, keep talking.

It sounded better than acquaintance.

[ he'll owe you, emma. ]

He's apparently quit his own club and I have no idea where he is, which makes finding him and dragging him back much harder than I'd like.

[ that image and that sonnet worries him, neal. but, he knows better than to call him out on it. ]

Other than the tower collapsing, yeah, I'm settling is as well as I can.

[ can you hear the smile in your bro's voice, neal? can you? he doesn't completely believe that's all you're doing, but whatever. ]

Going to try to be on the straight and narrow now?

[ a lot of people here have face twins, peter. maybe it's not even kate, so there. ]

...You weren't inside, were you?

[ holy shit panic for a moment. charles can't be spinning off into oblivion and peter hurt. not allowed. that smile bleeds off the worst of it, but still. ]

As a wise green alien once said: do or do not, there is no try.

[ ...right, and peter happens to be a conman. don't even. it's kate and everyone who knows neal's life knows it. ]

Because I had every reason to be inside there when it collapsed. No, Neal, I wasn't.

[ calm down, neal. 8| peter isn't dumb enough to do that. ]

Ah, but the wise green alien never met you. Try might be best until you show that you're actually achieving it.

[ maybe there's another spanish speaking, poetry loving, sketch doing guy in bete noire. YOU DON'T KNOW. ]

Good. I wasn't there in person, but it was ugly.

[ says the fbi agent who has been kidnapped. 8| back atcha. ]

I don't know if I should be flattered or insulted you think I'm the exception to Yoda's rule.

So far we've got House to take care of that little computer Stark is carryin' around in his head, and a capable mechanic who'll provide us with a dream getaway car. I'm still on the lookout for a fence, and a couple of good old-fashioned thieves would round things up nicely.

Who would you recommend?

I might know a fence, give me a day or two. As for thieves... those I think I can deliver on. [ beat. ] As long as you agree, of course. [ it's been a long time since neal pulled a job he didn't have full control over. ]

Off the top of my head and strongly recommended? Patrick Jane-- or Eames. I know Jane's worth asking, and if Eames is as good at more large scale theft as he was at attempting to pick my pocket so is he. There are a few other people I'm less sure about, but I'd start there.

[ it's so incredibly sad that discussing how best to steal things is one of the foolproof ways to get neal to act like a grownup. ]

Patrick Jane... would be a problem. He and House have a history, and let's just say they don't play well together, to say the least. I wouldn't trust them to put the job ahead of trying to screw each other over, which isn't conductive to good teamwork.

This Eames fellow, though, is a different matter. If you vouch for his attempted pickpocketing skills, I believe he could come in handy.

[ Why yes, that was a pickpocketing pun. And don't worry, Neal, Boyd gets it. Robbery is serious business. ]

...Remind me not to mention House to him, then. And no, you're right. He does good work but if emotion is going to get in the way, better to tap someone else.

I'll get in touch with him, see if he's interested.

[ these two things are part of why neal likes you so terribly much, boyd. insulting suits and all. ]

He told you that? [This was decidedly not what she was expecting to hear, at all.]

That's been on my agenda since the night of the attack, it's. I just have no idea where he is? Did he give you any clue when you talked to him?

And no, thank you, I-- Coffee, maybe? I need to keep it light, can't let myself shut down this time. [Because yes, Raven would fully admit that she did just that the last time. Neal's cooking makes it easy to go into a food (and brain) coma. S-So delicious...] Thank you, though.

He did. [ tiny bit of grimness there. ]

Not a single one. Told me to stay inside, that you were now in charge, and that he could no longer fill his roll as leader. [ now some irony. ] I tried pointing out he has other hats to wear, but it didn't seem to take.

...I can make coffee. You're welcome.

But he knows I-- That's not my position. Never was. [Which just made her feel that much more suspicious. She shakes her head, decides she'd have to figure that out later. His next statement is distracting enough.]

I don't think anything remotely subtle is going to take with him right now. I don't really know, though, for sure. He's never shoved me away like this. [But then, she did the same thing just a few days before, so.] Once we get him back, he'll remember that he's more than just some leader to us.

To be honest? I don't think he's working on anything like logic or precedent right now.

And if he doesn't, you can knock some sense into him.
