[locked to Admiral Jim Kirk]
I have news. Good news.

[locked to Spock]
I've found a job. Speaking dozens of languages might not be a boon here, but apparently speaking them eloquently still is.

[locked to Enterprise crew from any universe, cause at least there's familiarity there]
I feel like celebrating. Anyone interested in dinner and drinks?

[Hey there, Vulcan person from Spock's research. She's been hoping to get a chance to talk to you.]

Because I just got a job. A pretty great one.

[Hello human posing potential danger. T'Pol's holding back the snort, but the dryness is in her tone.]

Congratulations. [She doesn't sound like she particularly means it.]

[And not just dryness, but Vulcan dryness. 73% drier than the leading brand. She's used to Spock. You'll have to do better than that to discourage her.]

It would be nicer if you meant it, but thank you.

[If Uhura can hear your dryness, then you can totally hear her smile.]

I'm glad to hear it. I'll be even more glad when I hear what it is.

Then you had better start guessing.

[Yep, that was totally spur of the moment, but being excited about things makes her do that, and right now you're the closest thing to a 'girlfriend' that she has. Sorry, Jim. Huge smile totally in her voice, you don't need to see her face to know it's there.]

[Jim does not mind being a girlfriend at all. Not at this point, anyway.]

Um... You learned the doors don't always open automatically here?

[She laughs.]

Sadly, no. In the middle of the night I still run into the bathroom door about half the time. Try again.

At the Magistrate's Tower.

Understood.

[There's a part of him that wants to tell her to be careful. After just what happened to the last Magistrate, the tower isn't the safest place to work. But instead...]

You are more than qualified to meet their needs.

Kirk recommended that I look for work in the Government. I've never taken on something of this scale before.

[Read: she hopes she doesn't let you both down.

She's studied for situations similar to this, but having the knowledge and having the experience are two different things.]

I'm the Press Secretary for the Magistrate. I wasn't expecting something so public, but it should allow us an unvarnished inside look at the city that might prove useful.

The salary is also considerable. Mister Scott seems worried about being able to find the things he requires for you two to get your work done. I know I can't help from a technical standpoint, but now I can help fund the people who are qualified.

And, now, why would you pay attention to such egomaniacal drivel? Goodness, that man would simply not stop talking about himself. Seth this, Seth that, gracious me no one could possibly know ballet like I do, just like no one understands my purposeless moping!

[Well, that's a brand new voice that she doesn't recognize.]

He seemed genuinely upset by it.

What should I call you?

Edward, if you please. And of course he was upset by it. Never met the equal of that man's ego.

But enough of that, let's talk about me! Or you. A lovely woman's always an appropriate topic of conversation.

Don't you already know about me, Edward? Nolan mentioned shared memories. Does that only apply to general feelings, or can you remember the specifics of the conversations I've already had with other imprints?

[The words are direct, but her tone isn't unkind. Maybe a bit teasing, because today even Mr. Grumpy gets a smile.]

Life? Does it really matter as long as I'm treating?

Guess not. When and where?

Front door. Fifteen minutes.

[And now the teasing is obvious, though still with a spirit of fun.]

Try to look nice.
