There's a shift, a crack. He can hear voices screaming in the distance, but it goes ignored. Instead, Erik's focusing on the surroundings closest to him, trying to remember what just happened. He remembers the building, feeling out every trace of metal. He remembers tugging it all at once, making his point known to any who were willing to listen. But then everything else is a blank. One moment he was stood watching, the next he's left sprawled on the ground.

He takes a deep breath, his hands immediately jumping to his chest as he feels a sharp pain running through it. It's enough to have him let out a frustrated growl, already knowing just what the cause is. He's left gritting his teeth as he forces himself into a seated position, glaring daggers at the rubble surrounding him. He wasn't close enough for it to reach him, and he knows his input went by unnoticed. So it doesn't make any sense that he was attacked in the process ( ... )

It doesn't take Sebastian long to figure who might have brought down the tower. He knows Erik's power, after all, knows what it looks like in action. He's never seen it with such force before, but that's just an added aspect to impress him. His little Erik has grown so much.

It takes him a bit of time to get over to the tower, but soon enough he makes his appearance, elegantly dressed as always and with an air of confidence that keeps questions away from him. Besides, he's a known firefighter. It only makes sense that he would be there. There's no need for anyone to bother him.

Stepping over the rubble with a careless, confident attitude, Shaw begins the search for his dear protege.

His memories of the past ten minutes- twenty? Thirty? -are hazy at best, and he knows he only has himself to blame. Clearly he misjudged the fallout from the attack and hadn't taken the proper precautions. Though quite how the debris reached this far out is a question he'll think on later, once he's actually managed to make it back to his building again. He remembers the attack, with every piece of metal in the building calling to him. He remembers a conversation, filled with half-formed thoughts and threats. A familiar face, and-

A brick goes flying across the alleyway, only managing to make it half-way, before it's just bouncing along the ground. He needs to stop thinking about that. It doesn't matter what just happened. Instead, he needs to focus on getting back on to his feet ( ... )

Shaw turns at the sound of that brick, smiling a little to himself. He makes his way into that alleyway, shaking his head as he sees Erik among the rubble. "Oh, Erik, Erik," he chides. "You never were one to remember your limits, were you?"

He steps into the alley, pose relaxed, smile calm. Erik must be exhausted, after all - and even if he weren't, his powers would pose no threat to Shaw.

It all happens so fast, that she barely realizes she's ducked into an alleyway out of the way until it happens. This isn't the kind of thing that happens to her all that often, either. Held hostage by psycho patients? Sure. The top floors of buildings suddenly getting crushed into nothing? Not so much. But when she peers around the corner again and sees what damage has been done, that's what she sees.

The top three floors of the Magistrate's tower, gone.

Jesus Christ.

Fortunately for her, adrenaline and doctor instincts kick in before the shock does. She doesn't have a first aid kit on her, or any kind of supplies for that matter, but she'll do what she can, as best she can. She waits until most of the dust had settled, before rounding the corner and heading in the direction of the tower, stopping at the first injured person she sees. The sooner they're able to sort everyone out, the better.

Bonnie feels it before she sees it.

She's on her rooftop, watering a few potted herbs and her whole body tenses a few moments before she hears the sound of the tower falling. Even as she's turning, she's sure that's it. That is what her vision was of.

Without thinking about it, she's dropping the watering can and sprinting downstairs, pausing only long enough to grab a few medicinal herbs and a crystal of healing. She's no doctor, but if nothing else, at least she can fix some cuts and offer people some painkillers.

It takes her fifteen minutes or so to get to the site. When she's there, she just begins searching for the first person she can help in some sort of way, tries to block out the actual realty of how many corpses are probably in that rubble.

[ooc: bonnie is not skilled enough with medicinal magic to be healing any broken bones or anything, but she can stop some bleeding and such. anyone feel free to call out or grab her ankle, or she will just be helping npcs :)]

Damon was getting too old for this shit. He hadn't joined the police force to deal with idiots and terrorists. He had joined to make sure that idiots and terrorists didn't go after him. Well, the damn lid was off of the vampire pot now and somehow, he was still stuck as a first responder.

Of course, he had no idea what he was supposed to do, exactly. He couldn't get anywhere near the fire. And it's not like there was anyone to arrest. Most people were busy running for their lives.

Not that he could blame them.

Then again, there was one person going in the wrong direction. He sighed softly. Bonnie. Always looking for trouble, that girl. He paused on his way around the wreckage, watching her uncertainly.

A hand grabbed onto her ankle and she had to stop herself from pulling away as she looked down ( ... )

Well, that gave Damon pause. As he watched Bonnie tending to that hopeless, lost cause, he was already drumming up a few lines to get her to look away so he could snap the sorry sucker's neck. But look at that. Bonnie was learning.

"You did the right thing," he called over to her.

The Tower is not in Sam's view when the attack happens, but he sure as hell hears it. The screech of metal and crunch of stone, the falling rubble, the distant screaming. At first it barely has an effect; he's so lost in his own head and still so used to hearing explosions that it doesn't register until a few seconds afterward, and then he stops walking and glances around.

A few people have stopped at the next intersection and are staring toward the Hill. So are the people up on their fire escapes. From somewhere, a voice shouts something that ends in 'the Tower.' Sam's moving toward the intersection, but he thinks he already knows what he's going to see.

And there it is. To his own surprise, Sam feels a bit ill. He puts a hand to his head - a phantom pain. He remembers this happening before - only last time he wasn't looking at it from this angle.

[ooc: yeah so Sam's not going anywhere near the tower, not on his own. but I welcome tags if anyone wants to be a coward with him, or try to convince him to help, or whatever!]

The explosion shakes Furor's, and there's an immediate burst of conversation, and a rush towards the windows. Sookie can't see a thing from behind the bar, so she rushes out, stops short and presses a hand to her mouth in horror.

The Magistrate's Tower.

Movement next to her catches her eye, and she sees a familiar form pressing a hand to his head. Reaching out, she lightly touches him. "You okay?"

He turns toward her, all confusion and concern. Only then does it really register what his hand's doing. Sam shakes himself out of it.

"I'm -- fine. I just... I was remembering. This happened before." An explosion in the Tower. He'd been up in his office. Bit of ceiling had hit him on the head. He'd been rescued by... someone. A man with blonde hair.

"They never found out who did it."

"That would have been when you were here, wasn't it," Sookie murmurs, and she remembers it, too. That day had been scary as hell; the whole city had been in an uproar. "No, they never did. Even now, I don't think. Hope they do this time."

Hope felt the attack just before it occurred. It was hard to miss the sudden surge of Erik's powers. Her range was two miles, but that surge of power was hard for her to miss no matter what the distance. And then it was gone, but she knew before the calls came in something had happened.

She'd dispatched the entire Department to rescue duty. It wasn't something they were well-prepared for, at least not to this degree, but they were going to do their best to help all they could. Hope had the most experienced of her team members going into the Tower to help evacuate survivors while the rest of her team was helping with people caught in the debris.

Hope herself was inside the Tower the moment the truck arrived. At least nothing seemed on fire so far at least, but Erik's power had definitely left it's scar. There was nothing left to do but find someone and do all she could to save them.

Inside, Iron Man already stood there, taller, smoother, and sharper than before: the Mark VII, recently assembled. His head raised to the ceiling, the triangle emblem and eyes drew attention as usual, silent. He had flown here as soon as the first rumble shook the ground.

When Hope entered and surveyed the damage (minor, just scared and disoriented people huddled together), Iron Man glanced at her over his shoulder with a click of his fingers curling.

Woah.

This was the exact moment Hope realized that she'd never seen Iron Man all suited up before. Not even at home, outside of seeing it on TV. The one time he had been around her in person she'd passed out before she'd even met him.

But Hope let the surprise vanish immediately when she noticed the people looking scared and confused. "Need help here?" She asked him.

Iron Man nodded and said, "You and your men can take these floors." He turned his head to the elevator shaft. The top floors would be a wreck, impossible for any normal person to get to, but he wasn't exactly normal. The Magistrate would have been at or near the top; this, he figured, was a direct assault against her. (He had searched for the best way to her: Blackthorn and his dragons were circling above, so Iron Man would take the inside approach.) An attack from Uproar, maybe, or someone in their name. Idiots. "I'm going upstairs."
