One, Two, Three (And Then She Fell in Love)
Rose/Scorpius, rating: pg, words: ~350, romance
There was one boy. There were two hearts. There were three seconds. And then she fell in love.
One.
One, two.
One, two, three.
Just three little numbers.
Three numbers control my world.
I am obsessive compulsive, you see.
I need things to follow a pattern.
Mummy’s kisses number three and Daddy kisses twice.
Hugo always hugged me once each morning and night.
All was well, and I had my numbers for safety.
Until the day we went to Platform Nine and Three-Quarters.
What kind of number is that? It is not proper like one.
It is not even like two, and it is not odd like three.
Mum kissed me three times, Daddy kissed me twice, and Hugo hugged me once.
Then I climbed onto a train and met too many people to count. Except one.
This one boy was different. He was not a Weasley, not a friend, just a stranger.
He had white-blonde hair. He had sterling grey eyes. He spoke three words. “Please, excuse me.”
He blinked twice. He smiled once. I said, “No, excuse me,” and then I took two steps back.
I only fell in love once. Both of us were sorted into Ravenclaw, and I was overjoyed.
We spent one year as acquaintances, two years as casual friends, and three as best friends.
In seventh year, we started dating. At the end of the year, we got engaged.
Two years later, we married. Now, three years after that, we have a baby.
It was not an easy journey. Scorpius didn’t understand my need to count.
He did not know why we had one date in Madame Puddifoot’s.
Why we had two at The Hog’s Head was a mystery.
We had three dates at The Three Broomsticks after that.
He learned my pattern. He let me follow it.
I’m sure he must have thought I was crazy.
He stuck around though, and here we are.
Now Scorpius loves my quirks and me.
At night, he kisses me once.
Then he hugs me twice.
He whispers three times.
“I love you.”
“Love you.”
“Love.”
