Author's Note: I wondered what made the crack in River's armor. What was it that tipped the scales from a heartless person watching a man die, to a wondering child, willing to accept?

And the only thing that came to mind, was the Tardis.

She never expected the Tardis.

This is lovely. I can almost feel the Tardis' love and affection for River. I never really thought of it in such a way other than that River flew the Tardis better than the Doctor did. But your fic has just opened up a whole new facet of their relationship, and it makes so much sense. Thank you!
