The Finer Things and a Good Ride

I've been finding for the past several months for whatever reason, when I ride alone without encouragement I don't have as good of a ride. However, today I had a really great ride. I felt a connection with my leg the entire time and Dusty was turning on a dime. I'd sit back and give a little tug on the reins and he'd practically skid to a halt. I had a similar ride on Friday. His back was up and round the entire time and he moved out when I asked him to.

Now here's the thing, about two weeks ago I finally broke down and purchased a much nicer saddle pad that arrived on Monday and Friday was really the first time that I really had an opportunity to try it out and I'm thinking that it might be making a difference. In addition to The Amberg Fortune pad I picked up a ThinLine pad too. All of the reviews raved about what a change they saw in their horse and while I tend to be a bit of a skeptic, I figured that I would be a fool to not give it a try. Maybe the reviews are right?

I've also replaced my neoprene girth belt with a nice leather belt. I needed a slightly shorter belt than the one I had and while standing in front of the girth belts pondering the difference in price between a fleece belt and the leather one, I had a "Matt" realization. How much money would I have saved by now had I made the "right" choice the first time around instead of the less expensive one? I'm not going overboard and buying The Most Expensive items, but I am making smarter choices about what I'm purchasing for our comfort.
