Don't know why I'm suddenly receiving bad CS from 2 merchants at the same time. Would appreciate comments and advice.

MDS's reply sounds absolutely absurd. I think you should kick up a fuss. I have never heard of a blogshop making the customer pay return postage for a defective item. How does that make sense?
I've taken a look at their FAQ, they don't have any information on defective items. That's awfully suspicious because other prominent blogshops like LB:http://www.lovebonito.com/content/17-return-and-exchanges, TTR: http://www.thetinselrack.com/terms-conditions (3) If the defected item is still in stock, a replacement piece will be sent out together with a stamped envelope for the return of the defective piece.), TCL: http://www.theclosetlover.com/terms-and-conditions to name a few.
Just because MDS has a retail presence in some shopping malls does not mean they should assume that it is convenient for all their customers to return to their stores. Their clothes are also priced at a premium and one would expct their service to be miles better, for the amount of money you pay for their clothes. Makes them seem really stingy because they can't even afford to reimburse the postage fee when it's their fault. Not cool.
Hope this helps in building a case for you.
