Genie in a Closet Nelly Midi

Back with another review of this highly raved midi! I don't know whether to complain or be happy about the midi trend, because my wallet is definitely suffering. Heads up: looks like AFA is launching their ever-popular Leighton midi ( reviewed here) in new colours soon, seen in lime green paired with an upcoming top in their new preview, and in white (!!!!!) on Andrea Chong's instagram.

Back to the Nelly midi, I'm in two minds about this skirt. I am a 13" waist and size M fits me just right with no allowance (though perhaps it's cos my top was quite thick). The skirt falls in a very structured way, and does not allow for twirling the same way the Leighton does. This makes it more appropriate for work if you need a more subtle yet romantic option. It's made of what feels like thick, 'scuba' material, similar to LB's Adel dress (which, by the way, was super unflattering even after tailoring... sigh), and is half lined up till my mid thigh. I personally think the skirt could do without the lining as it's non sheer and doesn't run into VPL problems anyway.

The skirt is not as magically slimming on me as it appeared on other girls, though perhaps it's because my waist is not magically small to begin with-!! It also does not come with belt loops, nor pockets. All in all, I prefer AFA's Leighton for its silkiness, but the Nelly is still a keeper because its structural fit makes for a very classic, feminine take on formality. If I'm not wrong, second BOs are open! :) (as are second BOs for the Leighton)

Thanks for reading! :)
