Good luck! Complex icons can be frustrating to make but also so rewarding when you finally get them to look like the plan you had in your mind - I hope you'll create some that you're really happy with! :)

Good luck! I'm sure you can do it ♥ The more icons you make, the more complex they'll become. It's about experimenting even when it's just for yourself :)

I'll probably add a few but to start with:
* Not let work get too in the way of making icons. I want to enter a challenge or two every month, at the very least. * Try to make them a tad more complex in a way I'm finally happy with - i.e. improve when it comes to blocking/blending, find better textures that I'd use, etc.

Thank you! I know it does - while I was seriously working on my thesis, my muse abandoned me... so there is a 3-month gap in my year. I don't want to let it happen again, haha. Making icons relaxes me somewhat.

while I was seriously working on my thesis, my muse abandoned me Haha, same, I had to hand in my thesis this year and it sucked the creativity out of me for a while. Iconning relaxes me too, that's part of why I like Photoshop so much :)
I feel like all the comments stated above are applicable to me, especially to work on my more complex icons (blocking, blending, TEXT), but also to not to second guess myself when creating icons.
Good luck with these!! I totally relate to the second guessing part. Sometimes even after I think I've finished an icon set and am about to post it, it takes me 3-4 hours to post it cause I keep second guessing if they're good enough or if some of them still need more work. Usually I end up replacing at least 1-3 with new icons. It's exhausting to be a perfectionist sometimes!
Good luck! Second-guessing is a tough one. I do it all the time as well - I should've included it in there. As long as you like them, nothing else matters.
I never officially put this anywhere, but my resolution last year was to focus on set cohesion but also experiment with a lot of different styles - that is, to minimize icon similarity between sets while maximizing icon similarity within each set. I think I pulled that off well, because each of the six sets I posted has a clear theme and they're all different. I really like making icons this way so that's what I'd like to continue this year as well.
Thanks! :> I know this is a super lame resolution lol but I don't want to disappoint myself by promising something I can't keep, which has definitely happened before...
I am always in awe of the quality and originality of your icons, especially when you manage to do such cohesive sets that are distinct. I definitely think you will only get better at it (is that even possible? haha) Good luck! <3
I didn't make any resolutions last year, so here are my 2019 ones:
- Make more icons so I don't get even rustier than I already am. Get my mojo and inspiration back! - Participate in challenges, battles, etc. - Follow more makers, comment on icon posts. - Save pretty icons and make praise posts.
You can do it! I should've added the last two in mine because that's me. I feel like I only follow a few icon makers, and I'm too shy to comment on most posts lest I sound dumb. And I definitely don't save enough of those icons that make me go 'damn' :-)
All of these are fantastic goals! I especially wish you luck with goal one, I totally get how hard it can be to make icons without full inspiration. I struggle with that too, but it's so difficult to do anything about that! Let me know if you find somethinbg that works. (Also I love your grumpy 12 in Christmas hat icon! ♥)
Best of luck. I'd love to see more of you. More from you. Last year I started following many and I hope to find and follow many more this year , especially on dw. Also , I need to grow out of my shell and be more bold and confident in socializing in the icon communities and makers, I feel I'm too shy. :(
