I started off my year hoping to concentrate more on coloring cuz it's an area that I just never feel very sure about. Anyone who's seen my work knows that I tend to gravitate towards Vibrance layers, and it's very difficult for me to avoid using those things, but I promise that I did try. Eventually, pink and purple became my primary colors though that was never really a conscious decision. Those just seemed to be the two hues that I inevitably ended up at over and over again. Monochromatic coloring was also a big thing for me, mostly because of the fact that I don't color caps particularly well. Now I'm trying to make an effort to work on pale, muted coloring and also my lighting skills as a means of challenging myself. It'll definitely be hard to tone down my usual bright tones, but it should be fun! Of course, texture work is the one thing I relentlessly cling to, and I don't have any plans to put that aside cuz it's where most of the fun lies in making icons. For me, at least. Triangle and candy-colored blob textures were my fuckin' jam in the past year, and I'm still very into both of them, so they'll be in use for the foreseeable future! :D
I adore your coloring. I've always loved your monochrome icons; you do them so well! They're always interesting to look at, you do such fun things with shapes. (I got the geometric challenge at iconquest, every time I try I just wind up staring blankly at my "bag" before fleeing)
I honestly didn't even realize until someone pointed it out to me late last year that I make a lot of monochromatic icons. It's just a consequence of not having stronger cap-coloring skills really. I think I've improved in coloring though, for sure, and I don't feel as apprehensive as I once did when I open caps in PS. Shapes, on the other hand...shapes are like crack to me. CRACK. Just be fearless! What's the worst that could happen? They're just icons after all. Experiment and have fun with whatever's in your bag!)
I just love your monochrome icons, they're so neat and Idk they work really well. I also adore your geometric shapes and more complex compositions. Your last batch is just wow, I couldn't stop looking at the icon remakes!
Why, thank you! I don't really ever set out to make so many monochromatic icons. Like I said in my initial comment, it often results when I can't achieve a coloring that looks decent for a cap I'm working on. It's great to hear that some people like those types of icons though! And my geometric fetish is nowhere near over so there will definitely be more oddly shaped stuff coming out soon! :D
