Day Ten: One confession.
the weather was horrendous yeterday. we ended up with the weather causing all kinds of problems with the metro system, which led to the branch closing early again, and then after some messing about from some people, i got out eventually at 5.35. i got home at 6.40... just missed the start of judge judy!! anyhow, i caught up on a couple of things, then made a hot chocolate and turned in early, as the temperature had dropped sharply - and i couldnt do anything more to stay warm really, as ive already moved into the lounge and am blanketed to the nines. the fan heater i have is very efficient, but also noisy, so its not practical to have on whilst im asleep. this morning i woke up, and it was -12 centigrade - without wind chill... i was out in it for over an hour. left EARLY, anticipating problems with the metro, and sure enough, there were... big problems. "severe delays" which turned into no metros, so i rang work and explained that there were no metros running, and no replacement buses at that time, and got it agreed to go into the local branch instead. so cue 25 minutes hike to get there. as i did, i saw a metro, so got that and went into work. having left at 7.25am i got into work at 9.53. nightmarish day... metros off and on, making the odea of getting home harder to see being able to be realised... and finished at 5. it took me TWO hours to do a 40 minute journey. the guys who got the metro behind me to sunderland took THREE. so realistically we've had to travel on average 3.5 hours per day to get in and out of work. NOT good. tongiht im planing to do the same, but just had a bath so waiting for my jim jams to warm ont he radiator before snuggling into the sofa with quit, hot choc and QI...
so yeah, todays memage. - eight ways to win my heart...
1. Honesty - a MUST. i don't like hypocrites, or liars. and i would rather someone says if there is an issue, rather than bottle it.
2. feet on the ground. a grounded person is generally a good person to be around.
3. a good sense of humour, and an ability to understand dry wit. - i like clever humour - not really a chubby brown fan, although don't get me wrong, filth has its place, but filth is not crudeness.
4. intuition. - knowing when to give space, and when to approach. i fully concede that it would take a pretty awesome person to get that balance right 100% of the time, but i guess dont mollycoddle is where im going there.
5. be yourself! if you are a geek or a gig maniac or a pigeon racer, then tell me about it, show me...you'll prove you are interesting, and aren't an empty airhead :)
6. a spontaneous streak - some of my best memories were born of spontineity, be it a last minute decision to head back to the flat, buy some steak and pudding on the way and curl up with hot chocolate and a movie, or the decision of 4 of us to bail on my birthday party in order to go drive to the 24 hour tesco, collect items and go have a midnight picnic in the park, to staying up all night chatting then deciding to go to the beach to watch the sunrise. the ability to both participate and instigate is a definate win.
7. make an effort! its the little things that count. even if its jut being on time, and offering to be a gentleman.small gestures mean the world, and can turn a bad day around, whether its a text with a joke or a surprise from lush...
8. enjoy cooking. i love to cook, if i can cook for someone then even better.... but theres something awesome about cooking WITH someone... from a shared meal, planned for a night in - to (heres the spontinaety kicking in!) and off the cuff decision to doa ready steady cook style scenario....
if you know me then you'll see i mentioned nothign about music in my list... this is simply because i wouldnt want to limit my own or someone elses musical taste... similarities are a bonus, but diversity allows for discovery!
