Well it's been a while since my last update, and that's mainly because I've been working hard on a lot of new projects. I'll probably be posting some new material in the next couple weeks ( Read more... )

That piece was a lot of fun.

Regarding publicity: I think a lot of people know Cabaret is out there. I just don't think a lot of people know how awesome it is. I think it needs to be painted as something that people can enjoy rather than something for people who have nothing else to do. I have pretty much zero social life and nothing to do outside my classes, the theater department, and Cabaret, but I know that's not the reason I go to Cabaret on the weeks I'm not in it. I go because it's awesome.

That being said, I think Cabaret has gotten kind of a bad reputation. An acquaintance of mine says she doesn't go because she finds it "pretentious." Keep in mind that this is based on one time she saw it LAST YEAR, and I don't think that she has been telling people not to go, but it is a possibility. I think people have come to see Cabaret as sort of the poor man's Lampoon, which I don't think Cabaret is.

There are a lot of people who have never been to Cabaret or have never performed who I think would be really fabulous additions to a show or to "the team" based on what I've seen of their previous work. Liana's songs are brilliant, as are Sadler's and Jesse Rifkin's. Annalee was an audience favorite when she performed. Devin, Aaron and Katie (Hartman) are fucking hilarious, and I really think the SLC creative/performance world needs more of Eve Rybnick. If Cabaret can get these people to see the shows, maybe Cabaret can get these people to BE in the shows, and if not then at least that's 8 more people in the audience.

Just my two cents. I'm procrastinating.
