fanmix: our brightest minds

Jul 20, 2010 20:43

When I got home from work today I had all sorts of good intentions when it came to working on my challenge fic.

Two hours of procrastination later, I found that I had compressed my fic-writing playlists into a multi-era D/M fanmix.

I regret nothing.

1. Your Ex-Lover is Dead (Owen Pallett mix) - Stars
There's one thing I want to say
So I'll be brave
You were what I wanted
I gave what I gave
I'm not sorry I met you
I'm not sorry it's over
I'm not sorry there's nothing to save

2. An Angry Blade - Iron & Wine
Who left you so?
Who left you so?
Who left you so?

Grace is a gift of the fallen, dear
You're an angry blade
And you're brave
But you're all alone

3. Brightest Minds - Department of Eagles
These quiet hours, I don't know how to talk
I'll play your game though it really don't suit me at all
Just remember when I cut you down
That it happens to the better of the brightest minds

4. Little Lion Man - Mumford & Sons
Weep for yourself, my man,
You'll never be what is in your heart
Weep little lion man,
You're not as brave as you were at the start

Rate yourself and rake yourself,
Take all the courage you have left
Waste it fixing all the problems
That you made in your own head

But it was not your fault but mine
And it was your heart on the line
I really fucked it up this time
Didn't I, my dear
Didn't I, my dear

5. I'm Not Done - Fever Ray
So, I lost my head a while ago
But you seem to have done no better
We set fire in the snow
It ain't over, I'm not done

Some do magic, some do harm
I'm holding on, holding on
Holding on to a straw

6. Terrible Light - Secret Machines
There was a glorious fire
It gave a terrible light
Flashing in each other's eyes
Was the burning of our designs

7. This Tornado Loves You - Neko Case
Carved your name across three counties
Ground it in with bloody hides
Their broken necks will line the ditch
Til you stop it, stop it,
Stop this madness

I want you

I've waited with a glacier's patience
Smashed every transformer with every trailer
Til nothing was standing
Sixty-five miles wide
Still you are nowhere
Still you are nowhere
Nowhere in sight

Come out and meet me

8. Revenge - Dark Night of the Soul (feat. the Flaming Lips)
In my mind
I have shot you and stabbed you through the heart
I just didn't understand
The ricochet is the second part

9. Open Book - Gnarls Barkley
The drumbeat of my heart is tribal
Oh, the sweet sound of survival
Shall serenade this forest forevermore

The sun would have to be frozen
For anyone out there opposing
Not to end up in their own blood on the jungle floor
(War!)

Come on, fight me!
Come on, strike me!
I am an open book

10. Crystalised - The xx
Things have gotten closer to the sun
And I've done things in small doses
So don't think that I'm pushing you away
When you're the one that I've kept closest

11. Your Ghost - Kristin Hersh (feat. Michael Stipe)
Tonight, it's too quiet
So I pad through the dark
And call you on the phone
Push your old numbers
And let your house ring
Until I wake your ghost

12. Out of Gas - 76
Calculations, alignments descending
Node long since passed
An orbit never to be found
Never to be matched

Here I'm slipping over
A gleaming grey land-mass
Am I stranded, stranded
Stranded and out of gas

(Can you remember
Or did you never know
How beautiful you were
When the light was in your eyes

When your smile was for real
And we believed in each other)

13. New Kind of Thrill - Franz Ferdinand
Your blood in your hair
Honey there's that sound in my ears
But I'm still trying to survive
Oh I'm trying to breathe

I feel alive
Yeah I feel alive!

You better run honey
Yeah you better run!

14. Drumming Song (Acoustic) - Florence + the Machine
There's a drumming noise inside my head
It starts when you're around
I swear that you should hear it
It makes such an almighty sound

Louder than silence
Louder than bells
Sweeter than heaven
And hotter than hell

15. War - Emmy the Great
The dream that I have is always the same
A foot falls like an echo of a step I didn't take
And I see you coming in like you were never gone
Tell me, why did I wake?
Here in the world I was hiding from
They're expecting it to rain

They say that the winter clears the drains
That time heals all things
And they said that the thought of you would fade
Well I say nothing's changed

SHALKA BONUS. Sample and Hold - Neil Young
Perfection in every detail
Fabricated from the curl of the hair
To the tip of the nail
Because our units never fail
We know you'll be happy

fanmix, pairing: doctor/master unspecified
