when the good outweighs the bad

And life is this -
it's being nervous and cold by the entrance door, cell phone tightly in hand, just waiting for an old friend to enter into scattered warmth; it's sharing messy appetizers, discussing love and relationships, discussing life, discussing each other, and finally being true friends. it's walking in circles, talking until our heads come off, sharing an out-of-reality experience, dwelling, laughing, squirming; life is shivering as you walk to your car and being offered a coat, an open passenger door and a ride twenty yards away.

it's meeting old best friends' significant others and giving a nod of approval (even if they don't ask or need it but you still feel compelled to give it); it's growing into our own lives but realizing our hearts are still full of one another.

it's dinner with your wife, bringing a plant to your door; it's learning how to shape a flower out of a tomato, discussing wedding dresses, falling back into old rhythms and dynamics; it's taking short walks in crisp air, dodging cars, clearing your head; it's sharing popcorn and feeling sad when saying good-bye.

it's reconnecting with childhood friends, building snowmen and drinking hot chocolate; and it is walking along the rim of a canyon so large and colorful your eyes cannot take in the beauty of it's greatness.

it's old family and new family, best friends and casseroles; it's jam and toast, long hot showers, applying lipstick, befriending strangers. it's grandmothers and phone calls, mistletoe and tinsel; it is waves and cycles, and love; oh, it is much love.
