I don't usually do this sort of thing, but I've ended up taking part in the Vally Friendship Tour, an annual fundraising event for Alternatives Unlimited (here).[Spoiler (click to open)]They're an organization in Central Massachusetts that builds community supports so people with disabilities can lead fuller lives, or, to quote from their suggested fundraising script "with your help, more than 1,200 people with disabilities across Central Massachusetts can begin each day with a personalized plan to improve their lives."

I first heard about them when I took part in the 2000 Tour with Michael Franz Yoder, Franz Joder von Joderhübel in the SCA. They had a water route that year, for canoeists, which intrigued us; sadly that was the last year they did it, but we had a lot of fun. Unfortunately, I'm transportationally challenged, so I never had the chance to go back; then, in 2009, Franz died, and it became a treasured memory…

Then, this year, my parents happened to be visiting at the same time as the event, and offered to solve my transportation woes… and I though, well, I can't do this with Franz, but I can do it in his memory.

I'm not very good at this; like most people who take part in these things I feel awkward and embarrassed asking for support, so I just cover the 'expected donation' myself. Which is fine… but I also know that I'm not the only one who remembers Franz… or even the only one who willing to support Alternatives; if I say nothing, those people would never have the option to do so.

So, if you would like to, you can support me here, or my team, Remembering Franz, here. Any help you choose to give is greatly appreciated.

Kiralee
