Prop 8 in California had tons of money put behind it by a lot of Christian churches. The Mormon church threw tons of money into it. The only reason it got on the ballot is that some out of state church hired a bunch of people to go around collecting signatures. They stood outside grocery stores and said things like protect kids from pedophiles...and people signed. Every other commercial on tv was of people saying gay marriage would be taught in school and second graders would be brought on field trips to watch gay weddings. The amount of money and misinformation coming out of that campaign was absolutely ridiculous. There were huge protests in Hollywood tonight protesting prop 8. Thousands of people marched for miles down Hollywood blvd to Hollywood and Hyland (tourist area.) They staged a sit in in the streets and there was video of the demonstrators pounding on the doors of the CNN building (I'm not sure I follow the thinking on that one.) I think the protest was impromptu, just a few people, then grew as people saw it and joined the march.
