Prompt: “All they did was jeer.”

Everyone told me not to drop the soap- for when I joined the military, that is. Close quarters and limited free time were a done deal in the standard Shin-Ra army, and the pay was terrible, they said. Though getting to the slums was possible on the salary of an infantryman, hiring one of the many whores that littered the Honey Bee Inn was just beyond their wallet. Homosexuality was almost a requirement, though many of the applicants were straight enough that they weren’t tempted to take advantage of the willing bodies- or, rather, weaker bodies- at their disposal.
The military was almost synonymous with rape to the general populace.

Still, people joined.

When I joined knew about its reputation, and I’d expected sexual harassment, wandering hands, and the occasional forced attention. I was a bit smaller than the others at first, however, so I didn’t warrant a lot of attention. All they did was jeer. However, as I grew the others would throw their gazes my way. More than once I got offers to share beds with others. Occasionally a SOLDIER would try to lure me to his. However, I never had the inclination to go to bed with men, and doubted that I ever would.

The work was good, and the food was free; as was boarding. Training was efficient, as well. Two years into the military, when I had my sixteenth birthday right after the end of the SOLDIER exams, I was spotted as a potential for the next exams. They sent me on missions with 3rd class SOLDIARS, then, and then 2nd classes. I saw how I was expected to work should I pass the exams, and thoughts of partners and sex were the things farthest from my mind. The offers became more frequent as time wore on, but time after time I was not tempted.

They sent me on a mission with a 1st class SOLDIER about three months before the exams. His name was Zack.
I didn’t see him around the training compound, much, though I heard he participated in quite a few of Dr. Hojo’s experiments- mostly monster extermination. Before long, as rumor had it, the scientists had their eyes on him, as did the general populace and the higher-ups in the company. Like all other gossip, however, I ignored it.

It wasn’t long after that the boys in my barrack became more adamant in their pursuit of my company and I was forced to consider the words of civilians true. Once or twice one of the boys managed to force a kiss from me, and I found myself filing harassment reports. Bunks were rearranged, and eventually the company just put me on more missions to dissuade my bunkmates as I grew in strength. The SOLDIER exams were approaching, and my squad leader wanted me in top form; there was hope to bring some glory to the MPs.

Then the fateful mission arrived. I was going home, if only for a little while. For some reason, though, I knew I wouldn’t be able to bring myself to face the town just yet. I told them I would become a SOLDIER, but I was still an MP. They would be proud, I knew, but there was a principle there that needed to be observed.

Zach was at the rendezvous point, waiting, as were two other MPs. Settling down with them, a silence weighed over the group.

That’s when he came in. Sephiroth.

At first I thought he was just an incredibly beautiful woman, as comical as that sounds. There was a grace about him that I’d never experienced before, and he was… different. He was so very different from the SOLDIERS that invited me to their quarters; different from the Cadets that tried in vain to lure me to their beds.

He was different because I knew that should he ask I would have no will in me to deny him.
