I was hoping to cover that in survival, but suggestions on what to say would be appreciated. I'm not exactly an expert on it myself.

Though, I'm not sure what you mean by "modern food".

Well, it's important to not let your face get frostbitten. If it's exposed for too long that can happen. You can rub your face to check; if there's no feeling, you need to get your circulation going. Also, keeping a stockpile of wood for blizzards. Beer and wine are good to feel warm, but they won't keep away frostbite.

...Modern foods. Don't know when, but some time after 1814 people started adding weird chemicals for "preservation".

I will make note of those methods then, and give them as suggestions and methods of taking care of ones self during winter.

I don't really know much about that, in my world alchemists do have methods of preserving food, but I don't know anything about chemicals.
