After a few days and this place is still rather confusing, but, there's not much I can do about that. At least some of the most basic needs are available, I was starting to fear I would have to fight monsters continuously to be able to gain anything. Survival is still looking like a difficult concept though....Oh yes, I was wondering who was in ( Read more... )

I was not aware there were several libraries in use in the city.

As for the personified landmasses, perhaps they are the spirit of the people? I've seen stranger things.

I was told there are two, I have spoken with one who runs the public one.

That is one explanation. I think perhaps it might be easier to accept it rather than dwell on it too much.

And the other?

There are greater things to worry about, unless their squabbles manage to escalate into something that involves more than a boulevard and their own hides.

I haven't spoken with them yet, if there is one.

You're right, there are. Even if I find there method of handing things irritating. It really has nothing to do with me, and I shouldn't get involved.

From whom did you hear about these?

That seems to be the wisest course of action. You have not run into any problems on Lander?

A Professor Hershel Layton.

I haven't been out much since I took cover. I'm afraid I'm not very good with the kinds of monsters they have here.

What is the frequency?

There seems to be no shortage of variety, at least. What are you used to?

puzzledprof I think it was.

Well, I'm not particularly used to dealing with monsters personally in general. But I would say that the kind I could most easily deal with back home were rather soft and squishy. It's a little embarrassing to admit, since Puni are rather weak.

I see. [he's going back to check Layton's posts now] Thank you.

[he's actually not that used to personally dealing with them either lmfao] Your position at home did not take you into the field often, I take it?

You're welcome.

No... not particularly. Though as a committee member I was required to make occasional patrols around the island to make sure things were safe, general combat was handled by the knights.

A member of a committee...? Did it address public safety?

It was a development committee, there was a project to develop an island off the coast into a resort to attract tourism. We were responsible for the safety of the town, as well as organizing the contest that was used to attract alchemists into participating.

Commercial development? I take it alchemy is some form of profession there -- what was the purpose of bringing alchemists?

When it's finished it will become one, yes. Currently though it's a government project. Well, the alchemists were to build the resort attractions, as well as supply items that are needed for them to flourish. Alchemy is a very useful skill, you can create a lot of different things, they are... sort of like our countries engineers, I think. I'm not overly familiar with engineers, since only a few countries use them over alchemists. I wish I could explain it better, but I'm not an alchemist.

Judging by the principles of alchemy, in a society where it is accepted and practicable I can imagine the uses -- engineers and magicians are much more common in my world.

That would make sense in a world where alchemy is not common. Every day I keep learning more and more about how my world can differ from others. It's been an interesting learning experience.
