So, a very good friend has had a run-in with the dark side of fandom today. The spite of one person has just deprived many others of something that has made them happy, something that has meant a lot to them. My friend doesn't deserve this, and the knock-on effects of this situation are potentially life-changing for her. She is responding with dignity and courage, and I can't say how much I admire her.
This is not the first time something like this has happened - we've all heard the horror stories. What it does is highlight how very vulnerable anybody who participates in fandom can be, especially someone who writes slash.
As much as I loathe it, it has forced me to think about how I interact. From now on, anything that isn't a story will be locked on this journal. This is nothing personal, I can assure you, and is not a reflection on anyone I have met here. If anyone feels strongly that they want to hear the boring details of my life outside fandom, please get in touch.
In the meantime I'd like to say be careful out there.
ETA - I've screened comments, because... I just don't know how safe anywhere is at the moment, but I will be passing on all your well wishes. Thank you.
