So, I was walking on a gravel road in front of Zach's parent's cabinets Zach's dad Evan while carrying Henrietta in an external frame pack on my back (
this one)
We had already gone up the hill and were making our way back down to the cabin. I am still not sure why I lost my balance but I know that once I started to go down I could only think "don't fall backwards, Henrietta is there". So I threw my weight forward, I think in the act of doing that I put my head down and that is how I scraped up the top of my forehead. I landed on my right knee and hand, both of them are pretty beat up, then I rolled to my left side and tried to see if Henrietta was okay. She was and she actually thought it was fun.
Evan was there right away, he is an ER doctor, so he checked me out and carried Henrietta back to the cabin. After a quick look at my forehead, where he decide glue would be better than stitches, I jumped in the shower while he figured out if it made more sense to drive to Cody (40 minutes away but small) or back to Billings (2 hours away but where the hospital he works at is).
The shower was gross. Zach was in the bathroom and he helped pull a bunch of hair off of me. I lost handfuls of it. Also I was bleeding so much that it didn't matter if I washed my face or not.
After the shower, Zach got a bandaid on my knee and Evan put some steristrips on the wounds. Zach packed us up, Zach's mom gave me an ice pack and we started theong drive back to Billings. Zach's parents had to close up the cabin, so they were an hour behind us or so. However, there was an accident that stopped traffic for a couple hours on the highway, so they didn't get home until late.
Evan picked up some durabond, glued my face back together and told me I would get a couple black eyes, which he was right about.
Here is what the black eyes looked like this afternoon.
