I tried out the new Watch Now feature on Netflix tonight. Almost everything about it was awesome. The interface was easy to use and install, the movie loaded quickly, and best of all it was free with my subscription. Apparently you get an hour's worth of streaming for every dollar you pay in subscription fees. I currently have the 1 movie at a time plan for $10, so I get 10 hours worth of streaming per month. The picture/sound quality was decent, nothing spectacular, but better than YouTube.
There are some issues though. It only plays in Internet Explorer, and I guess it doesn't work with Macs either (but no one cares about Apple users). the bigger problem is that the selection of streamable movies isn't spectacular. I watched Real Genius, since I hadn't seen it, and apparently since I'm an engineer I should have watched it years ago. It was good, I guess. But beyond that, it doesn't look like there's much there I want to watch that I haven't seen already. I've seen the good ones, and I don't want to waste my time with the shitty ones.
So, as soon as they broaden the selection a bit, I'll be super on board with it. But hey, it's not like I'm paying extra for it.
