Personality |

When Yuri is first introduced he seems to be your regular carefree, single minded anti-hero type. Save the girl, save the day (and while at it, why not get some just 'rewards' in advance?)- that would be the first impression. He comes across as rude (before we know his name, he's dubbed 'Rude Hero'), nonchalant, deviant, smug, confident - you name it. He immediately takes a liking to Alice after he saves her from Albert Simon. He makes some advances at her but he still cares for her, protecting her from threats. Under that overconfidence lays a scared child, though. He is still haunted by the past, how he wasn't able to save his mother and how he felt inferior to his father's strength. He prefers to act in the spur of the moment and to get to things head on, dealing with the consequences later. Despite his apparent aloofness he's very reliable and righteous and will never abandon his friends no matter how hard things get.

Having said that, Yuri was always kind of a lone wolf. He travelled alone for years after his mother's death and never seemed to bond with anyone until he met Alice. Meeting her changed his life completely as he got to meet more people and even form a strange group of what would become friends. They were different people who shared the same goal - saving the world. His life finally had a meaning besides searching for his (already dead) father and later following the strange voice in his head giving him orders. Due to all these years of travelling alone and many times through dangerous places, Yuri had to develop his physical and mental skills to survive. He might not be the sharpest knife in the kitchen but he sure knows how to talk his way around something, or how to trick some dumb people into telling him what he wants to know. He isn't very literate and it's safe to say the technical aspect of things flies right past him. If he sees a switch with a puzzle and is in a hurry he'll lose no time in kicking it instead of deciphering the riddle. Too bad that kicks won't work most times. His manners are as carefree as his general behavior. He certainly doesn't hold back on the insults and taunts towards his enemies. Of course sometimes a part of it is only to reassure himself and to put up a strong front.

Yuri has always been bad at expressing his feelings. Before Alice he had never really cared so deeply for someone, and neither had anyone cared so much for him (besides his mother, of course). Eventually Alice sacrifices herself to save him and after that something inside Yuri has broken. His confident and rude attitude has been somewhat tempered by her loss. He blames himself for her death and tries to still act brave. However he lives life with abandon and for six months he lives in Domremy, Alice's home village, taking care of her remaining family. He defends the village from German troops trying to invade it and eventually meets Karen. It becomes obvious that Karen feels strongly for Yuri and Yuri also feels a strange connection to her, though definitely different and milder than how he felt about Alice. Of course he has no clue that Karen really loves him and only when she blatantly tells him does he get it. Yes, Yuri really isn't the sharpest knife around. However her feelings are never reciprocated, not exactly the same way. But nonetheless Yuri is grateful to her for taking care of him. The trust he has in her reflects itself when he offers her one of the few prized possessions he has left - a cross that belonged to his mother.

Possessions |

Beside his clothes, Yuri carries around some healing items and all kinds of knick knacks from his travels. He also has his gauntlets and a crimson periapt necklace that belonged to his father.

Character Abilities/Powers |

In his human form Yuri isn't exactly helpless. In fact he isn't helpless at all. Having spent a good time of his life travelling around the world and sometimes through places pretty much resembling hell and rumbling with all kind of atrocious monsters, Yuri certainly had the time to hone his battle skills. He perfected the fighting style taught by his father, which is made deadlier by his use of all kinds of gauntlets and gloves.

Of course, if in a pinch, he can always rely on his skills as a Harmonixer - Yuri can fuse into several elemental monsters. However, his abilities are unique in a way that a Harmonixer is only supposed to be able to fuse with one monster. He is the person with the most SP (sanity points) in the parties, which means he can withstand more creepy stuff that should be possible for normal humans. He even outranks the sanity of vampires - beings that have been living for centuries and have certainly seen their share of horrific and gruesome things.

Weaknesses/Fears |

For all his wittiness and sharp tongue Yuri does have his weaknesses (besides those already pointed). A Harmonixer's mind isn't a pleasant place - there are never happy dreams there. His dreamscape takes the form of an eerie graveyard, his fusion monsters represented in tombstones. Each of them represents a feeling or an emotion (for example the Water type represents sadness and grief). Basically all his emotions (guilt, wrath, hate, lust, chilvary, etc) take a tangible form that is his fusion monsters. In order to strengthen them he uses the souls of the enemies he defeats around the world to charge them up. While it's true that an incredibly strong will is necessary in order to wield such abilities, his mind can also crumble because of them. Gods like Amon and the Dark Seraphim can be hard to control and if he's not careful he might go berserk from their power. That's what happened when he tried to fuse with Seraphic Radiance (same as Dark Seraphim basically) to save everyone, but it took over his mind instead. He vanished for months until Alice found him. The only way to bring him back from the recesses of his mind was by sacrificing her own soul. The Yuri in the dreamscape was digging his own grave by order of Fox Face - a dark entity born from Yuri's uncertainty and scorn towards his father who had disappeared and left him and his mother alone. After Anne got killed Yuri blamed his father subconsciously for her death.

All in all, wielding the power of various monsters along with two Gods (Amon and Dark Seraphim) really isn't for the weak of heart. On top of that Yuri gets cursed by the Holy Mistletoe, which will make him slowly forget his very existence, eventually causing him to lose his soul. It's a slow and painful process, made worse by the fact that it sapped him from his fusion abilities, which means he has to gain them back as he gathers souls (or malice) from the enemies he defeats. This causes him to feel fear like has perhaps felt few times before. He doesn't want to forget anything, doesn't want to stop being the person he is, because that would also mean that Alice's sacrifice would have been in vain. He eventually gets a spirit guide in his mind in the form of Jeanne, a little girl who was Alice's cousin. She takes it upon herself to try to find Yuri's happiness. It takes her long and she eventually realizes that she can't find it because Yuri himself hasn't decided what happiness means to him.

On a final and funny note about Yuri, despite all the kinds of creepy monsters he has fought, despite the fact that he's even defeated a metagod, he's afraid of ghosts and superstitious about them. It's more like he has a fear of the unknown - he gets along just fine with having fusion monsters in his mind but he just can't wrap his head around the idea of people's spirits - he gets really freaked out about that.

[the feed turns on, accompanied by a faint sound of shuffling, some small curses and the familiar *beep* that is uttered by any technological device being abused by its user. Finally, the close-up of a vivid crimson eye fills the screen and the feed slowly zooms out as the user moves the strange techy object in his hand] ...this finally working or what? Heh old Roger is way better with these thingies... Oh, the light's on.

[a young man with shaggy brown hair and remarkable eyes that seem to have a perpetual glint of mischief clears his throat and waves hesitantly with his free hand] Yo...anyone out there? What's up with that Arnie guy? His offer sounds good and all (well, a part of it) but I'm afraid I got better things to be doing...

Oh, and guys, you better be with me on this one. Karen? Kurando?...Blanca, pal? Com'on, don't leave me stranded alone on some crazy island off the map...

Speaking of maps, anyone has one I can borrow? Oh, the name's Yuri, by the way [because he still believes he's stranded somewhere between Asia and Europe and this whole thing is either a giant prank or he got lucky to land in some remote village with the local crazy. Not that he isn't used to that kind of thing]

Third-person |

The last time Roger's crazy machine of an airplane had made such a large journey across half the world, they'd ended up falling from the sky like some drunk oversized pigeon, thanks to Anastasia's antics over some bear family. So, when Yuri found himself regaining consciousness with no memory of lying down to nap in the first place, his worries about a hectic end to their flying adventure and the possibility of another gruesome trip by boat weren't really unfounded. So, upon opening his eyes, he hadn't been surprised to be staring at an unfamiliar ceiling - that had started to be fairly common in his life after Nicolai had stabbed him with a holy stick that ate away at his soul. However, the fact that Karen's worried features or even Joachim and Anastasia's common banter had been replaced by a stranger did surprise him and he was instantly on his guard. The talk about another world and the mention about 'pleasures of the flesh' had him automatically listing the stranger as another weirdo and perhaps a friend to the Megimel brothers (he was certain they had followed him here as well, even if 'here' was as remote as it sounded.)

So, apparently, he was stranded in some strange place where, for some reason, it was encouraged for him to perform certain 'duties' and this coming from the same guy who then had told him some fairy tale about a mermaid and a wish. He mentally added 'nut job' before the 'weirdo' as adjectives for his newest acquaintance. Not that a guy with Arawn for a name wasn't allowed to have some issues but, while a part of his speech might have been to his liking once-upon-a-time, right now he had more important things to deal with. Like finding his friends and getting his cursed rear on the move over to Europe to stop another friend from trying to destroy the world. He really had it coming with the guys he befriended these days - he thought wryly even as a sad look crossed his eyes.

"Well, sorry to disappoint, pal, but it's time for me to get going."

He waved the guy off, along with his reassurances that he couldn't really leave.
