They used to have this joke about how Sebastián Artigas sparkled when he was in public. It was a silly thing, probably because he always seemed to know exactly how to act, even when he was small. Daniel knows it’s because he’s just naturally graceful, and he knows when he’s supposed to talk, and when he needs to be quiet, and everything other people have to struggle to learn.

At parties, anyway. Daniel has played football matches against him, and he has seen the grace vanish and his cousin turn into a scary little smiling monster - but he’s fine with that, really. They’re cool.

Anyway.

He doesn’t want to think about that.

He wants to think about how beautiful Sebastián looks, with the dark suit and the red tie and the soft smile on his lips. Daniel thinks about how he could go there, right now, and then…

Then, Sebastián would smile at him, with that caring look he has for his baby cousin, and then wait to see what Daniel has to say, and that’s where the problem starts, because even if Daniel could theoretically kiss him right there, he can’t imagine what will happen next. And he needs to, or he’ll never work up the nerve.

He’s almost sure Sebastián won’t punch him, or anything like that. But he’s not convinced that he won’t give him the same smile, soft and loving and just a little condescending. And then Daniel will have to punch him, and-

Of course he won’t. Even if he wanted to, he wouldn’t. Maybe he can kiss him twice, then. This way, he’ll delay the problem.

Daniel gets up. If he’s going to do this - and he will, he’s tired of sitting in the corner - he needs to do it fast, before he can change his mind. His hands are starting to get damp with sweat, and if they start to shake, then that’s it, he’s going to leave. He has his pride too.

And Sebastián can’t just… stand there, sparkling at him like that, torturing him like that.

So he goes, and then he pats his shoulder, and yes, Sebastián turns to him. “You look really nice today,” Daniel starts, because it feels wrong to just randomly kiss him without even a hello first, but then Sebastián holds his chin. And Daniel is trying to adapt his plans to this new event, when his cousin says “Thank you, you too,” and kisses him.

He doesn’t sound all that smooth now, Daniel thinks, the sense of triumph spreading all over him, and then he holds Sebastián’s face with both hands, and stops thinking for the rest of the night.
