Why is it, that when I have lots of time, I do nothing. My shuttle kids are playing on Singer Island in Florida for Spring Break, so I'm not tied to stopping my activities from 3-5 4 days a week to drive them around. So, I had from 11 on and really, truly have not gotten much done. I've gone grocery shopping and to Target. But, I haven't done the rest of my projects for the day--which are far too mundane to list here.
I honestly got stuck reading a really funny blog written by the mom of a toddler. I think it's a problem stemming from so much babysitting.
I live in a really diverse neighborhood in Chicago. Logan Square is primarily Latino and Polish, with young, white hipster/old white hippie mixed in. Honestly, there are young families moving in. Most people, though, are involved in non-profit work or something. I babysit past the Polish section of the Square, so I drive down Milwaukee and have the opportunity to goggle at the Polish department stores and bakeries. It's so interesting to me. I never hang out in that area, mostly because I live in the Latino section. Polish sounds like mish-mash to me. Although I don't speak spanish, at least I can read it. I can also understand some of it. Although, yesterday, I parked my car in front of my building. I was at my door when I saw the little old man accountant who's office is under my apartment come from across the street and proceed to try to get in my car. I kept saying, "that's my car!" "Sir, that's my car!". Finally after a little while, he figured it out. He looked at me and my car. Then pointed at his, much older and totally different make/model, dark green (sameish color) 3 cars over. He then started speaking to me in Spanish (note: I HAD been speaking in English). I didn't understand a word, he was speaking too quickly. So, I said something polite and went in my building. It's strange to me that he didn't know any English...because he's an accountant and he must deal with that somehow. But, maybe he isn't REALLY an accountant and just something having to do with income tax (like his sign says). It's a mystery--like a lot of the storefronts on Fullerton.
